different POV: my family, friends, and former colleagues all think *better* of crypto because i work in it and have strong conviction about the technology yes, they're still a little icked but less so because of me i bet @nick could say the same believe in the power of good, kind, interesting (crypto) people

I have the same experience as you @ted. IME, it's important in these initial convos about crypto to both: (1) acknowledge that some/many of the things they are hearing about **are** scams but (2) give examples of what is fundamentally interesting about this new way of recording and protecting our digital property. (Which is, btw, the vast majority of our overall property at this point.) I often tell people about how I got interested in Bitcoin bc super wealthy Chinese clients kept asking to pay my education business in Bitcoin. I could not understand why. But then as I started to ask, I learned that no Chinese bank would allow you to convert more than $50K of your wealth into USD in a given calendar year. If the Chinese government could stop Google, but not Bitcoin... this seemed like a powerful source of financial freedom, and a check against overreaching governments.

agree x a million, there are always skeptics but most of my friends are open minded enough to go "well it's mostly an area that i don't know enough about, but knowing that you are so all in on it definitely makes me want to understand it better" all i know is if we got my dad on board, we can get everyone 🤣

Pretty easy to onboard your family when you send them a nice bag to learn about dexs. I have a pretty sincere reasoning cause we’ve never accepted credit cards at the farm, so low fee $ sends onchain are a great use case, though not many are using this payment (yet). I do meet plenty of folks who initially see crypto as full of scammers thanks to the sbf - Tom Brady effect, Elon & DOGE etc. and if they were connected to me when Lazarus hacked Ronin. I like drip.haus for introducing artists to crypto and ditto @zora. So many in roads. Might not agree with Ryan Selkis yet the fact that his trump donation via ETH saved the campaign ~1K in fees is notable.

agree re personal approach - onboarded a lot of people. it very much depends on personal background. young people all interested in tech and opportunities to earn money/new job. some 'adults' who are used to investing are also curious about crypto but often don't have someone to ask about it. but old money rejects crypto completely, calling it 'grey money, grey market.'

It all depends on how strong are your beliefs, your communication with your family and also your oratory. But sometimes there are some battles not worth fighting for.

I have experienced this myself. My active involvement and commitment to contributing in the crypto space (vs just supporting it) have positively influenced the opinions of those who know me about crypto. They are much more curious and open. It helps that I do things that are able to show them crypto isn’t all what they think it is vs just tell them. Ex - local reforestation projects funded and supported by Silvi Protocol, donating to local charities via funds raised on giveth and gitcoin etc

this is very much my experience as well. a couple of my friends go out of their way to say that their view of crypto has changed because of what they know I'm working on it / what I've shared with them (the fact that they feel they have to go out of their way to say that says a lot about the general public perception)

I’m 100% with you on this. Just had a convo with some peeps from the degrowth/regenerative moment who were veryyyy skeptical about crypto. Just by me working in the space and being clear about my reasons to be doing what I’m doing, opened them up to it. Eyes on your own paper, be a good a person, and that alone will crease a ripple effect.

Crypto would be light years ahead of where it is now if it wasn’t a fomo fueled speculative asset with no real world uses (I think 80% of crypto is useless trash that has no real world use) Cryptos biggest failure was it being sold as a money replacement. It’s the worst thing imaginable at being “money”
