I don’t think you guys understand just how bad normie sentiment is towards crypto sometimes. It’s REALLY BAD.

my family, friends, and former colleagues all think *better* of crypto because i work in it and have strong conviction about the technology

yes, they're still a little icked but less so because of me

It all depends on how strong are your beliefs, your communication with your family and also your oratory. 
But sometimes there are some battles not worth fighting for.

I believe families are complex, and each individual's relationship with their family can vary greatly. 
When I refer to "battles not worth fighting," I mean classic verbal arguments. 
I completely agree that actions speak louder than words, especially when the other side isn't widely open to discussion.
