what i love about nyc is that i can go to a @coopahtroopa.eth show, my friend's 3 year old's bday party (so many babies), a basement techno rave, and a schubert arrangement of goethe's poems all in one weekend. whew

i caught up with a friend of mine last night (36F) who i had always seen as a mentor / aspirational figure when i first met her at google in my early 20s, and though i love her to death i was shocked to hear how much fear she had about the future she & her husband probably make $500k+ base, they spend $10k/mo on rent, have a 3 year old with a full time nanny but are always home for dinner as a family. yet she was worried about a potential new hire threatening the her work dynamic, how she and her husband feel trapped in the US with the new administration threatening europe (they're both EU citizens), one of them getting sick before her kid's bday party this weekend becoming a founder has changed my brain - i have to orient towards optimism or there's no chance of success. being in crypto has changed my risk tolerance - the ups & downs of the market are just part of the journey, and there are always pros/cons to both

i spoke to my grandma, my ๅค–ๅฉ†, last night for the first time since grandpa passed - i'm ngl my first thought when we got the news was concern for her - it feels like an unfathomable transition to lose someone you've woken up next to every day for 60+ years. she told me that after crying her eyes out for days and feeling hopeless, she realized she still had so much to live for - 3 children, 5 grandchildren, her faith - and that despite her age / declining health she was going to "่ทณๅ‡บๆฅ", which directly translates to something like "jump out". i'm interpreting it as "get back up and live life". we thought she was too frail to embark on int'l travel but not only does she want to come back to the US, she even wants to visit me and @briang in nyc for the first time -- from china!!! i was blown away, that's a full 24 hr travel day that i barely feel like i could do anymore, and the woman is 89 !!!!!!! it's honestly crazy to see that kind of mental and physical resilience in these moments. <3

my ๅค–ๅ…ฌ (maternal grandfather) passed away in his sleep yesterday. he was 88 (extremely lucky number in china) and lived a long, full life as a math teacher, basketball aficionado, and english learner (he always said the same 3 phrases to our childhood friends lol). i'm sure there's endless ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿช๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿฅ˜๐Ÿฅœ๐Ÿฅฎ๐Ÿš๐ŸฅŸ wherever you are now โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน
