different POV: my family, friends, and former colleagues all think *better* of crypto because i work in it and have strong conviction about the technology yes, they're still a little icked but less so because of me i bet @nick could say the same believe in the power of good, kind, interesting (crypto) people

I have the same experience as you @ted. IME, it's important in these initial convos about crypto to both: (1) acknowledge that some/many of the things they are hearing about **are** scams but (2) give examples of what is fundamentally interesting about this new way of recording and protecting our digital property. (Which is, btw, the vast majority of our overall property at this point.) I often tell people about how I got interested in Bitcoin bc super wealthy Chinese clients kept asking to pay my education business in Bitcoin. I could not understand why. But then as I started to ask, I learned that no Chinese bank would allow you to convert more than $50K of your wealth into USD in a given calendar year. If the Chinese government could stop Google, but not Bitcoin... this seemed like a powerful source of financial freedom, and a check against overreaching governments.
