looking for recommendations for... 1. a better keyboard. I use am Apple Magic Keyboard, full size with Numeric Keypad and recently have developed more wrist, hand and forearm pain, looking for anything better suited what is basically a full time desk job 2. good exercises for the same issues. I swim and do some basic free weight stuff + pushups. lots of obvious info online, but any recs from personal experience? do I need to start lifting heaps? how can I make it so I can copy-paste smart contracts and angry-cast in /politics all day long without feeling like I'm getting really old

I do yoga with @loriann but occasionally when I’m having wrist pain I do this routine https://youtu.be/NxC4LhOrMFw?si=nmGAyKYaSYSaizJ1 It helps a lot. It’s just a matter of stretching!

Keyboards are highly personal but generally split, low profile, and lighter switches are better for ergonomics. If you’re down to spend a little time adjusting, the ZSA voyager would be my pick in that realm Don’t have any wrist-specific exercises, but picking up a light band and doing band pull aparts a couple times per day works wonders for posture

I was in the same position as you and tried to go for the full on ergo keyboards, tried a lot from splits to weird raised ones (I liked the Microsoft Sculpt the best). In the end I settled on getting a nicer keyboard in the form of a Logitech MX mechanical, and compared to the ultra flat apple keyboard that made a word of difference. Combined with a ergonomically shaped LIFT mouse and I’very been happy since.

I find having my hands at the right angle helps a ton maybe one of these wrist pads could help. Also hand/wrist yoga as mentioned by others is so important I do hand stretches a lot too

If you're willing to put in the time to learn a smaller layout, for example using layers for a numpad then this is the best keyboard I've ever had (I've tried a lot). Less finger movement on a smaller keyboard is a huge win for RSI just by itself even. For me, one of the reasons I used a magic keyboard for a while was continuity when not on the laptop keyboard. But this travels so well and fits around your laptop so you still get that benefit. (Unless your laptop is on your lap). https://www.zsa.io/voyager

if you want something that will be a significant improvement with minimal fuss and a low learning curve: the Microsoft Sculpt. still one of my favorite keyboards. I've owned three, as I've tried others and given some away. for a SIGNIFICANT improvement, with a solid consumer experience and the option to customize: the ZSA Moonlander. it's a proper mechanical with real ergo features (ortholinear layout, tent/tilt, thumb cluster, etc.) and the customization software is some of the best out there. learning curve is still pretty low (because there are still plenty of keys), and you don't have to fuck with janky firmware/software to get things going, but you retain the option to have custom switches (hot-swappable) and keycaps (for an even more ergonomic shape/profile) the ZSA Voyager is a more advanced experience (fewer keys to work with) but probably has a better (or just more familiar) typing feel bc of its low profile (more similar to the chiclet style of the Magic Keyboard)

lifting definitely helps, but also look into a tented board (not even split). that was the #1 cause of pain for me initially

I switched from an Apple keyboard to a keychron k3 and love it. Transitioning from the flat apple keyboard to a lower profile mechanical one doesn’t take as much commitment to get used to as other more ergonomic options, but was a massive improvement for my wrists.

1. I switched to Logitech MX Keys after apple and never looking back. Also ditched magic trackpad in favor of the MX mouse too. Reduced wrist pain by a lot.

I've been working on my wrist and hand pain in PT. Besides lifting, I do these wrist extension and flexion with dumbbell exercises every day and it's helped so much https://www.verywellhealth.com/wrist-strengthening-exercises-2696622
