Looked at from a silver linings standpoint — if you can maintain your values in this era, your heart will certainly be lighter than a feather: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maat

The answer is laziness. It's easier to extract than to build.

Good question. It probably has something to do with choosing the easy way. Lots of people think that's "smart".

I think one of the other problems is that our other "smart people" trust a little too easily. Especially around here. Which leads to extraction being shared to other people. The reality is, no one is as smart as they think they are and should act accordingly. Instead, it's opposite. Self awareness has always been lacking in society, but it has been on a severe decline in the last 5 years

What do you think about reframing 'extractive' slightly, as compared with 'exploitative'? https://warpcast.com/eirrann.eth/0x21c6c0f9

Very interestingly put. I think extraction is mostly tangible and value is not always tangible. Though, while we dream of true decentralization (in web3 context) we have hardly still made the cut to make it both dececentralized + tangible outcomes inclusively to everyone. Value and learning are out there in all layers for sure. But the truly smart people, as defined by the world, are those who have status/wealth/influence. Yet there are people, places and experiences that are more valueable than just smart. If it makes sense.
