Brutally honest and sobering feedback from r/ethereum on Farcaster. We have a lot of work to do! https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/192zi9a/why_are_you_here_and_not_on_farcaster/

Reddit seems like an odd place to look for feedback about farcaster, brutally honest or otherwise. It’s apples and oranges. Maybe bluesky, mastodon, and threads.

I admire you showing us the hard stuff to hear! I was chatting with @cameron and it came up that farcaster still has a crypto (scam!) association… …and it didn’t occur to me at all! 🤦🏻‍♀️ I wish people can see the fun side. To me this space feels like a private discord actually instead of Reddit

One thing I agree with: now that there are channels you expect the depth of content to get better, but the character limit really blocks that from happening (I think this is why others say that channels feel like hashtags rather than subreddits)

My pitch would be: Farcaster is where @vitalik.eth hangs out

A lot of people there just don't care about decentralization, so you'll never convince them, but there are several good points made. Having to pay to join is going to be a deal breaker for anyone who might otherwise want to try the platform out, and learning about warps is a big ask. The cast character limit is also fu

hard to pull away folks who have built up reputation + community on another network; easier for those with fewer switching costs you should do an AMA there :)

Really shows you how out of touch we are with folks outside the bubble. Would love to make a landing page, article, or doc/FAQ that explains why a sufficiently decentralized social network actually matters. Clearly the core value prop isn’t getting through.

More than anything, it seems the web materials on the landing page are not adequately explaining what Farcaster is on the inside Easy fix, in my opinion

Please remember that a good product is not all-fit size. To be good in some use cases, you need to compromise in others. There might be user groups that Farcaster will never attract and it's fine.

i think the exponential rise in activity over the last 3 months is not talked about enough and hence people's views are also outdated. people are perceiving farcaster as a place where there's very little activity. which was a fair view maybe 6 months ago. not anymore.

Another thought: People who like using Twitter and people who like using Reddit are almost mutually exclusive groups. Farcaster is a Twitter clone, so you're going to have a very hard time convincing Reddit people to show much interest in it.

I cant wait to watch FC continue to evolve. Also, I think there is an answer to the “I don’t want to pay for social media” dilemma somewhere that lies with something like ad views, bounties, or otherwise spending effort to pay, if the user chooses. Maybe not from WC, but a solution does exist.

What are your takeaways? Slight shifts in the forum and linkedin directions might help. I don't think there's been an app that really encapsulates a modern forum & networking experience. Give content more space and readability. Beef up profiles; you can turn the network into a flywheel directory with clean funnels.

"is there a way of using it just with my Ethereum wallet" is a great comment I went to Warpcast.com while logged out and clicked "Join the conversation" took me to a page only listing app options why force app download? couldn't people just connect a wallet, pay to set up an account, and do apps down the line?

Does the FC onboarding still require paying before you can browse? One way you can allow people to try before they purchase is to have a bunch of tester accounts, and let new users use them for a few days. After which the account is cleaned and made ready for the next person. Just an idea.

Was talking to a web3-native today and he said "there's no way to carry my web3 social graph there" - i.e., he wouldn't know what friends are already on here. thought that was interesting.
