legit my plan for retirement is to have a cute apartment in a city and then a beautiful cottage in the woods on a lake with a separate art studio big enough for me to do all my art hobbies ideally facing south or sw so I get the sun for both sunrise and sunset obvi will spend most of my time in the cottage

less just thinking fuck it, more planning my whole life around eventually moving to a cozy town where I can have a garden and a barn that I can convert to an art studio. Having spent plenty of months in that kind of setting I can say with confidence I dont want to be one of those blissfully unaware small town folks

This is literally me. A little over a year ago, we sold out house in the city, sold our cars and almost all of our belongings. We then traveled the country for a while living van life full time. We just settled down in a really rural part of the PNW and couldn't be happier.

Yes, definitely love to balance hectic with cozy when I can. Full on lifestyle change will probs never happen, but I try to create experiences that capture this feeling—eg read at night with candles, or a peaceful morning walk.

Simon Sarris' lifestyle? I think it's getting more and more possible to have the best of both worlds with Starlink and remote work.

I actually think most humans live this way, no? the average person spends something like 80% of their time within 3 miles of their home.

Yes Unable to disconnect completely from the world beyond a 10-mile radius, but I think about it far less than I used to

I moved to upstate ny after having that exact thought and while I’m positively thrilled, it did not stop my brain from wanting to be overly ambitious 🫠

Every single day I fight this battle. If there was a way to live a simple life by the ocean to still surf and not have to strain to afford it, I think I'd have left software/tech already. But I haven't figured out how to make this a reality yet.

Mine is a slight variation of this, but it is usually involving throwing my phone into the ocean and never looking at a screen ever again

I think about this, but i have this urge to build as big a warehouse/workshop as possible and get laser-focused on building hardware.

Pretty much never honestly. You only (probably) live once and you're living in an extremely rare period in history where you don't have to live in a small disconnected location. Everyone in history has experienced that so why not experience something only you can? That's my thought..

All. The. Time. The only thing that keeps me from doing that is the deep fear of feeling like I had an unfulfilling life.
