my biggest concern with people in tech who spend all day shouting on the internet is that many of them spend very little time talking to the people actually critical to society: doctors, firefighters, police officers, construction workers, mechanics, farmers, chefs, baristas, mailmen, janitors, retail workers, etc.

When I worked in the cattle industry, I often thought about how the ranchers I worked with don't share their thoughts on the internet in anyway. I found them to be incredibly profound and complex yet none of it ended up on the internet.

In a previous life I worked as an environmental engineer in municipal govt; half my time was air permitting and the other half was permitting for building department where I got to talk to all walks of life Service jobs are underrated in terms of gaining life experience, and not just that but it explicitly helped me revamp our entire online permitting UX with the help of our software team (they didn’t speak to users either lmao)

i created a video call platform to encourage people to connect more after a few years, there's still immense opportunity for it however, i think we've all been weathered to accept the accessibility of great content (and conversations) because the algo hits us with pristine dopamine on demand the result becomes a focus on what do we want to talk about, with who, when and how -- stringing these together is difficult back of envelope solution is: creating content for others to async respond and promote events that maintain a ratio of roles to talk
