Stop treating business like a thing with problems to solve and start treating them like a living being with needs to be met.

Current Goals: - Continue rebuilding strength base; focus on upper body - Improve flexibility: touch toes without bending knees - Redevelop baking schedule w/ newly created starter - Build moss poles for aroids and start climbing - Convert Visual Design 101 deck to visual identity tutorial kit in Figma.

Just stumbled on this incredible interview with Brian Collins from last year. Incredible talent always pushing his award-winning teams to the cutting edge: "We always try to look far beyond wherever we are. When you’re always looking over your peers’ shoulders, you end up looking like your peers." "The most creative, sexy, interesting and visible things you do in your career will be less than 5% of your real work...But 95% of your work will be focused on consistently applying yourself to the mundane, the dull and the painfully boring." https://www.fastcompany.com/91028065/brian-collins-on-the-secret-no-one-wants-to-tell-young-creatives-today

Finished building up my raised bed and got all my planting done. To set the bed up without spending a ton on wasted soil, I layered in logs at the bottom with mulch in the center from found materials and community resources. 6” of custom soil mix on top: - CoCo Coir - Vermiculite - Recycled Mushroom Blocks - Chicken poop fertilizer (donated) - Activated Charcoal - Perlite Material Cost: $110 - soil amendments $80 - plants

Actively unlearning fixed brand frameworks from my early career to build more flexible systems right now: - defining relationships between elements more important than defining the elements themselves - semantic kit of parts is more usable than technical specifications - one size fits all approach = one size fits none - determine where a communication lives on spectrum between utilitarian function and emotional expression. Adapt the brand kit accordingly. - brand expression doesn’t stop at guidelines and standards: it starts there - the logo may be the most recognizable part of the brand but it’s only one part. It doesn’t need to be on every graphic. Other brand elements can create similar recognition. - logo system > logo lockups

I haven't forgotten about my promise to turn this into a design kit in Figma! I needed a breather after ETHDenver & SXSW and will be picking this up next month!

TIL two helpful shortcuts: 1. With eyedropper selected (I), hold `shift` to sample an object's style, not just its color. 2. (shift + I) β€” pull up asset menu for quicker searching and inserting of components

This mural going up on the new Pleasant Valley Longhorn Dam underpass is weak, equality & inclusion theatre. Capital Delivery Services is bringing forward nothing that actually represents the neighborhood because they aren't giving the community a real voice in this process β€” instead, they've brought in a Houston-based artist to build a collage of vague community mantras & imagery with a tile-by-the-numbers assignment for local volunteers to build it. Huge missed opportunity to bring in local artists to create a collective mural based on their lived-experiences in this place. Or better yet, yield the tunnel space to the neighbors entirely as a community-managed graffiti space. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdeOo4kMcPo

Current progress iterating Decent's color system to a proper v1.0, before and after. Still testing each color in UI and illustrations, making smaller adjustments as needed. Also need to update material transparencies. Overall, the amount of color swatches available were reduced by 14% with each primitive value plugged into a unified system that smoothed out color bands across each stop. Visual accessibility is now baked in, and every color works better in combination with others. Layering in design tokens after testing is complete to provide usage guidelines for designers and developers to keep the design-to-code gap tight. Updates will be reflected in app.decentdao.org soon. Stay tuned!
