as someone who straight up asked @dwr.eth for a job once and regularly gets tagged in “hire ted” casts or DCs i’m 10000% aligned with his take on focusing on product and not marketing for growth in fact, my POV is that it would be dumb AF to hire a marketing team right now what would they do? what would i do?

Mm depends on your definition of marketing. They might build/maintain relationships with popular casters/communities and provide a regular flow of feedback into MM. You could call this product/sales/marketing. “But that’s dan/v’s job!” Yeah I know. They doing ok. If they needed help this is what a “marketing person” could do.

I'm supporting you through @microsub! microsub is now in public alpha for $DEGEN and HAM, with support for more tokens coming soon. 32 👏 (Please mute the keyword "ms!t" if you prefer not to see these casts.)

>dumb AF noted I'm pretty sure the common form would be like a low-key, as-close-to-public third place where good faith dialogue can be initiated w/ no transactional stakes. and somewhere along the line, word of mouth marketing which rules everything around us would take over, and there would be a third place conditioned for successive cohorts of onboarders. not sure why there's such full-throated disagreement about something as common as this. is there something offensive in how these "outer-curated" social subnetworks assimilate?

I understand everything, but I can’t imagine Farcaster without you. And I think you, @ted, is already doing a lot for FC to onboard people and keep/increase engagement here

I've been a practitioner in the industry for 20+ years and I agree with this take 100%. Lauding the choices he/they are making around sustainable, organic, product focused audience recruitment and retention. Anyone that thinks "marketing" and/or "advertising" would be helpful, doesn't understand how either/both work.

Maybe not a marketer, but I really feel like they could use a better person to manage communications. Sometimes the comms out of the team are very ... terse.

you’re already doing the job, why would they pay you for it? I don’t mean that in a bad way. if @dwr.eth @v and team can keep building products that get people so excited they do the outreach, the white glove, the demos/tutorials, and pull features out of them, def no need to add overhead.

Think marketing, but not traditional! What if that extra body (maybe you @ted ) could ; ✅ Run onboarding sessions ✅ Collect more product feedback ✅ Make everyone feel heard and part of the community ✅ Try out other products and provide feedback Mostly this is categorized under "Product Marketing" Also I see you doing this on a day-to-day basis for Farcaster and other products anyways!! This could be a perfect role, no?

There’s 4 Ps in marketing…I think what is getting lost is people really mean “promotion,” which is one of them, and yeah…and all of what Dan said is true. But there are still 3 other areas that fall within the scope of marketing (which is more than promotion). Looking from the outside, it appears the functional group responsible for product is carrying this which works OK initially, but really, at this point need to push off some of those things to marketing to carry and work with product.

I’d sit all day cold emailing and LinkedIning Influnencer Markerting teams at large companies I’d discuss with them the opportunity of paying influencers on FC for sponsorship. Together we’d come up with creative ways to engage with FCs vibrant and loyal ecosystem One way to get content creators is to have sponsorship money here and have the sponsors suggest to their partners why FC is a great channel
