Last thing I was working on was a way to set up jobs that dumb data into the db with execution log for tracking, to support partial updates and eventually support dependencies. I wanted to be able to schedule the jobs cron style but also be able to start them remotely, on demand. Using a single go binary.

The biggest thing that slows me down right now is setting things up from scratch in new environments. Once they're up and running. 🚀 I'm also not using a lot of heavy tooling until it's needed or if it's quicker to set up than doing the simplest thing. (i.e. postgres vs sqlite, former has more managed options)

Discovering, investing, building, creating; this is what makes us human and what has kept us growing in capabilities. We keep at it, improving generation by generation solving the problems so we can keep moving forward. We shall not be stopped.

Frame by @tom-major Of course my first cast was about Nouns. Looks like a reply. Although we just call it Nouns these days.

The main thing I learned from this episode is how much Microsoft hedged its bets since early on. I also didn't know that IBM developed the PC in a completely different division truly isolated from the rest of the company prior to The Innovator's Dilemma.

This is pretty cool. I didn't realize MS-DOS was written in assembly, although it makes sense since they were targeting a specific architecture, unlike Unix. https://github.com/microsoft/MS-DOS

I like treating software development like Tetris. I write a bunch of code then rearrange it until I can delete most of it.

This is so interesting. I came to similar conclusions for my project but I'm starting with Postgres since there's much more support for it out of the box so less ops work. I'd definitely switch when needed.

Just got my rabbit r1. Haven't played much with it but its a cute little device. First impressions: - It's toy-like design makes me want to play with it. - I have no idea how to hold it to get the best UX. - Scrolling is slow, I wish it were as smooth as a phone swipe or an iPod wheel. - AI has felt fast enough so far.

Credible exit (data portability) and permissionless composability are the two properties of decentralization I care about the most.

What if NodeJS had never existed? Rails was the most popular web framework around the time NodeJS came out but there were many different stacks out there. Now it seems that everything is just NodeJS even when it shouldn't be.

This is gold. I still don't know how to center a div after all these years, now I just ask the LLM to do it.

What did they expect with such a high price tag and what it seems to be very few compelling 3p and even 1p experiences. They just succeeded in giving Meta more energy to push even more with Quest and their OS. https://www.theverge.com/2024/4/23/24138487/apple-vision-pro-cut-shipment-forecast-kuo-rumor

I fortunately had the privilege to work in a project driven by Ben Gomes. His care for the Search user experience from the early days helped set Google ahead of the rest for many years I was also fortunate to work on some data projects for Amit Singhal another early Search employee My first years at Google were great

This is a big hit piece against Prabhakar Raghavan the head of Google Search, Maps and Ads. I can say that Search drastically changed after Ben Gomes was replaced with Prabhakar. I was shocked when Search and Ads were merged into one org. That was a big no no. https://www.wheresyoured.at/the-men-who-killed-google/
