Metaverse never made sense to me except as science fiction. Because you can’t navigate a virtual space by walking (you’ll hit a physical wall in your environment), it’s hosed. And those to whom virtual escapism most appeals are likely also the most physically constrained.

What if a future iteration of the Omni one got incredibly good? https://omni.virtuix.com/

What about those omnidirectional treadmill things? I guess there hasn’t been one that’s priced low enough to be mass-adopted…but physically possible?

100%, unless it's neuralink style with a BCI and you can simulate walking through direct brain stimulation

You'll notice that all of the classic cyberpunk books are very specific in what brand of eyeballs a character has but very vague on what the control scheme for the metaverse actually is.

This slaps. In user interviews, most of our players are using VR in the small space between their bed and their desk… Because they are middle schoolers.

I like an eventual thin pair of glasses and overlayed visuals/audio to enhance the livesd experience - but staying tethered to earth. Apple is on the right track there, imo.

I always understood Metaverse as a shared database that everyone has access to and no one controls. Virtual worlds are just one (not the most interesting) use case.

I’ve said it many times. Metaverse as a concept is a scam. It’s a dystopian dream I hope nobody falls into.

Teleportation mechanic takes just a few seconds to learn, and it's second nature/fully embodied for most people I've demoed VR to (100+) within 5-15 minutes. For everyone else, they seem to prefer the "VR legs" and joysticks approach (I'm not one of those people).

I never quite got it why do people associate metaverse with 3d and digital represenations of the real world. I avoid to use the term, it means so many different things to diff. ppl now

I think “in the fullness of time” the Metaverse is the logical conclusion to the Simulation Hypothesis. If ours goes that direction, it would go a long way to explaining the Fermi Paradox.

I agree, escapism is a bad avenue to venture into to market the Metaverse, the marketing should be more realistic and sell the idea about improving remote work-spaces with rich virtual environments for starters (Apple is taking this approach(?)), that might yield better results.
