does anyone else not like being called ser by strangers on the internet. i’m kinda ok if my friends use it to address me once in a while but absolutely not when strangers do it.

As an nb human, it bothers me. Sad, because it's actually non binary for "sir" from Shakespeare days, but Crypro absolutely usurped it. The people in my circle use xer instead, which is close enough but still separate

Eh, `ser` originally bothered me but that's just because the word sir spelt like `ser` is nails on a chalkboard to me eyes. Very much like the word `moist` is to other people's ears. However, I feel it's used is good faith and a term of respect, so eh doesn't bother me too much anymore.

My favourite is when dudes call me “brother”, clearly not even taking a glance at my profile or photo LOL

i don’t like it either but doesn’t bother me too much because my default assumption is that they don’t know i’m a woman, so they don’t line any better and that they mean it as a term of friendship. @resipsa who may have had similar experiences as me?

I reserve the Ser for the responses said in an Oliver Twist voice. Create the new vernacular for adoption, FC opens the doors for establishing new social mores.

I'm cis male and it broke my brain a little the first time someone addressed me that way. Not because of the gendering, but the implied pronunciation felt like I had stepped into someone's colonialist fantasy? Like this person was roleplaying an Indian manservant addressing his British master?

the thing that gets me is "gentlemen" it conjures up the classic image of a bunch of guys walking into a library to smoke cigars and drink whiskey and me not being allowed to come
