Video clip of Naval talking about how homeschooling kids is significantly better than having to send kids to school I don't have kids, curious what parents think about this? Hadn't really considered homeschooling for when I have kids https://x.com/joelrafidi/status/1882152338376532222?s=46&t=QNlz9swNdb9dxGQvZZJaCw

I was homeschooled K-12 and there were definitely pros and cons. Happy to share if interested :)

not a parent, don’t plan on having kids* I went to a huge, extremely diverse public high school and was in the public system my whole education I credit the friends I made, and their diverse backgrounds, when it comes to who I’ve become. I feel like with home schooling, you’d have to be extremely intentional in exposing your kids to other cultures and ways of living so they have a higher likelihood of being more emotionally intelligent, curious, open minded people. That takes a lot of time and resources my 2 gwei at least

I was homeschooled Grade 1 => 12, as were my younger siblings. It's p complicated and results can vary. I loved it. My brothers did not. My mom stopped teaching in public school so she could raise us, so I had one stay at home parent. It was a lot of sacrifice, that I definitely benefited from, I'm not sure how my brothers feel about it though. I know at least two _desperately_ wanted to go to real school.

We tried all three with my stepson. Although for "homeschooling" he mainly had tutors from an education center. The tutor thing worked well in early elementary but it wasn't sustainable due to time and cost. At the end public school in a good school district with resources for kids with ADHD/Autism worked best. We had to move to a specific district though.

No first hand experience but some parents I know like the kids out of the house. I only know one family that homeschools and the mom teaches. They're fond of it but its mostly because they're not happy with the education quality and some subjects.

I listened to the full podcast. This was also my observation of home schooled kids if you had the resources. More interesting was the unschooled kids only needing a year to catch up on k-12. Interesting, but I personally haven’t seen it to know

i like the idea of homeschooling but my wife is against it so.. idk, we'll see i would need to figure out a really compelling answer re socialization, as i do think that's very important. i tentatively like the idea of pod schooling for this reason

Very difficult to home school well imo especially if both parents are working. Also have to create a community to ensure socialization. My son was doing school from home online during Covid and he did fine but overall experience not great for him. Need to have those social interactions. Kids will also miss out on diverse ideas & perspectives. They already get their parent’s perspectives. They need others. I’d never home school for those and many other reasons but understand how that might be a good option for some kids & circumstances.

The first thing I would do if resources weren’t an issue is pull them out of school and homeschool I’ll take every second I can with my kids

My kids do a hybrid homeschool. Two days in school, 3 days home school. Small classes, like 5-7 kids. Learn mandarin, latin etc. We love it. Schools not free but yeah. Public school classes- your child will many times be stuck at the level of the lowest performing student because there is 1 teacher per 25 kids w no assistant.

I like the idea of homeschooling, but there are some environments and relationships that are very difficult to recreate at home and lessons that are difficult to get from parents. I think about children who are coached/trained by their parents and the effect it has on their relationship. Sometimes it turns out great, but often it doesn't.

Parent of 2 kids (6 and 8). I love the idea of homeschooling them but I don't think it's a good idea if you're still in hard work mode yourself (which I am). On top, even though I think they could be pushed more, their public school is great and they love it as well... and "no" our life doesn't suck :)

Also — wow he sounds like a really selfish dude — and he has no idea all the good things about a school community that he’s missed out on, especially when they are young. Pretty sad for his kids actually.
