or maybe these technologies really are dystopian?
a few examples of prev paradigm shifts.
1. An interview w/ a quantum computing professor a few years ago on Odd Lots, basically framed QC as good for the end of privacy. when Weisenthal pressed him for actual, positive outcomes, the professor struggled. "Uhm, maybe there's like, some interesting diaries to read?"
2. Carmack on Rogan, similar question, "what's the use of VR?" Carmack struggled and said "well VR will be cool if you live in a trailer park, maybe your physical surroundings aren't so nice and you want to escape them?"
I think, if pressed, you'd see those at the head of AI companies also struggle to articulate a vision for how these technologies are life affirming for anyone but themselves. 3 replies
