B The statement implies that the issues we have on earth are harder to solve than getting to Mars So I don’t see why we wouldn’t just tackle the hardest problem first - which is fixing our own home.

how inefficient our systems are today makes me bullish on earth if we can make them more efficient

should be able to do b) followed by a). being we have a hard with a time change and have been adapted for earth for a very long, truly curious though how we would handle these various mars effects long term: - solar day is 24h 39m 35s, think of circadian rhythm - 1 year is 686.98 earth days - a mars season is twice as long as an earth season - mars is cold, on average -62 °C (-81°F) - gravity is 62% lower than earth

c) Regardless of how beautiful Earth can be made to be, we still need Mars for life to continue in the face of an extinction event.

Solving the harder problem first is easier than doing the easier problem of the motivation/inspiration is higher. We chose to go the moon not because it was easy but because it was difficult.

I get the idea of exploration leading to benefits back at home Doesn’t have to be a binary choice though, I mean isn’t NASA budget like 0.1% of federal budget lmao And SpaceX is fully private so they’re just doing their own thing If I had to choose I would choose solve our problems here. What if some colony is established on mars in idk 2050 and then everything goes to shit and they’re not self sufficient? It is a high risk
