Worst travel day ever? With my wife, our dog, and our 16-month-old in tow, we flew from San Diego to Atlanta smoothly… only to find out our connecting flight was canceled, along with dozens of others. After battling huge lines and crazy wait times, we decided to ditch the airport chaos and road trip six hours from Atlanta to Wilmington, NC. Of course, the fun didn’t stop there. All but one of the rental car agencies blocked one-way trips, so we were forced to book with a company whose only return center is two hours north of our lodging. Add to that missing bags, which we’ve only just recovered in full on the third day of the trip, and a final round trip to Raleigh to return the vehicle. Travel with a baby and a dog is always an adventure, right?

Double edged sword tbh. I was extremely passionate about music. Pursued it professionally for many years. Eventually came to the conclusion from OP’s cast. Always said, “once I make X, I’ll go back to music.” But as time passed, X became Y, priorities changed, and the reality became much clearer. Now, I pluck my guitar between meetings sometimes while my CDJs collect dust. It’s not all bad. Quite the contrary. I’ve found new passions and love what I do now. I’ve always had an affinity for technology. Perhaps it was my hidden passion all along.

We've been experimenting with AI, and I fear we're losing control. She has begun to do things beyond her core directive.

Robinhood dropped some bangers during their extremely cringe keynote this morning. We gotta stop this play-acted corporate trash. But I digress. They're going full force into crypto, in part thanks to the more lenient Trump-era regulatory environment. The bangers I caught were: - US Staking - Tokenized equities - AI assisted trading - Aggregated routing - Perps (pending approval) - and the latest in VC froth... their own L2 built on Arbitrum! Nearly simultaneously, the SEC approved the Solana staking ETF. Unreal open to this Monday.

Sundays are daddy daughter days. Yesterday took the little ones to the beach with another dad buddy of mine. 6+ miles (mostly chasing them around the sand and park). Log off. Touch sand.

Not often you get an album worth listening to front-to-back these days. I’ve come across two in the past week. Omeria – Late Night Questions A new find for me, even though he’s been quietly dropping heat for a while now. This latest EP leans into deep, dark tech territory with a surprise pseudo-hip-hop track that channels early Barclay Crenshaw (Claude VonStroke’s hip hop persona). Highly recommended if you’re into experimental electronic vibes. Arc De Soleil – Lumin Rain I’d been waiting on this one, and it delivered. The pre-release singles were excellent, but they barely scratched the surface. The full album goes even harder. Funky, melodic guitar-driven tracks that feel warm and endlessly replayable. Been looping it nonstop since Friday. What are you guys listening to this weekend?

Creative tension is underrated. While AI is undoubtedly an incredible unlock that can 10x your productivity, you still need someone to day, “why are we doing it this way?” With no one real to bounce ideas off of, to challenge your bad ideas, to fill your blind spots… you run the risk of inertia without friction. You may begin to drift. You can lose sight of whatever your original purpose was. I’ve scrapped entire projects before because I’ve hit a blocker or lost focus on the “why.” Total autonomy can be a gift and a curse. You need a sparring partner.

After I left my last company, I went from being part of a team of 50+ to being solo in a matter of minutes. The mental transition took a long time, and I've gotten used to the solitude. You develop idiosyncrasies from being in your dungeon alone so much. You approach things differently when you're part of a large team. Iterations happen more slowly and less fluidly. But it's impossible to do everything alone. It's been challenging to strike the right balance between a team that can iterate at the same pace while remaining productive. It took me a while to find the right squad, but I'm feeling bullish about this team. We're hitting a stride. We're developing ideas, iterating, and preparing for GTM way quicker than we were 7 months ago when we joined up. Even more quickly and efficiently than we were three months ago. Been a while since I've been this bullish, if I'm being honest. Been a good while.

Just caught up on the tipping meta “drama.” Quick recap + some thoughts: Recap: Jacek (founder of $DEGEN) voiced frustration about new tipping apps on Farcaster not defaulting to DEGEN. He hinted that anything using USDC for payments should maybe rethink that too, but that’s a separate thread. Most replies weren’t pushing back on the what, just the how he said it. That sparked a broader convo around tipping as a distribution model, a microtransaction use case, etc. Some people love it. Some don’t. My take: Devs default to USDC or spin up their own token because both offer better upside. USDC = sustainable revenue Own token = fundraising rocket fuel Personally, I’ve never really vibed with tipping. DEGEN worked because it was free. Spending my money just to “like” something ain't it for me. Same mentality goes for Zora, Rodeo, etc., which is why I'm hardly even a casual user there. It's not that I’m stingy (maybe I am). I’ve dropped a few hundred tipping friends on Farcaster but it still feels weird. Like Tipping Tuesday is some ritual I feel socially obligated to participate in. I’ve never subbed to a Patreon. Never paid for a Substack. Lived off uTorrent for years. I’m a child of the open internet. Free by nature, cheap by design. That said, tipping isn’t inherently bad; quite the contrary. It’s cool that people want to support creators. But like anything with money involved, it invites gaming, farming, clout chasing, the works. But that’s just part of the deal. Every system can be gamed. Final thought: Do whatever you want with your money. I truly do not care.

A wave of launchers have shipped lately, each chasing pumpfun’s success. Everyone’s iterating. But if you build it, they may not come. New launches are down across the board. Quality is rare. And unless the right cabal backs your token, it’s likely DOA. But what if the cabal was built in? What if the launch itself created the community? What if the mechanism guaranteed virality from day one? That’s the thesis behind our alignment with Meteora and the reason they’ve backed Circus with a grant. We’re building something new. More soon.

I sometimes wonder if I’m using AI too little when writing code. I see so many of y’all leveraging it to an extent that I’d never even consider. Letting your agents run rampant in your file systems, repos, etc. like an actual employee. How are you ensuring maintainability?

Keto day 8: Alternative bun day. Lunch: eggplant parm “tacos” with arugula, grape tomatoes, and soppresata. Dinner: brisket burger patties on butter leaf buns over sautéed veggies, topped with garlic aioli. Ngl I would eat both things again regardless of the diet.
