I strongly prefer cardio (cycling, running) - I get substantially more enjoyment from these and love being outdoors. But weightlifting is more aligned with my goals. So it's often a struggle between the two and for different reasons

If you have space try asymmetric carries in your backyard with a large weight. Lots of other resistance exercises you can do outside! Although it's true nothing beats a good bench or squat rack

I love hiking and since I live near the mountains, I get cardio and a little strength training with each hike. But for daily at my age, need to keep up the muscle mass.

I think most people have a preference. But the downsides of sustained imbalance in either direction push most people serious about their fitness to find a way to do the less favored exercise. Fortunately, we are developing great minimal time models for both sides of the ledger.

you should consider doing calisthenics at your local calisthenics park. You can reach very similar goals to weightlifting, but you can do it outside

Your body should be the result of your life. If you love an activity, you should do it, and your body will transform to support you. It's a recent phenomenon that people have disassociated body goals from life goals and I don't think its working out well.

Cardio is superior for body and mental health But weights are great for self-esteem which also helps the latter The right balance of both is best

I also find my cardio days to be more productive, hence a constant balance being sought

I get this. I personally enjoy doing Brazilian jujitsu, the most out of anything, but I have to limit how much due to risk of injury. I do enjoy lifting weights quite a bit, and I really need to find more ways to enjoy cardio because it always feels like a chore.
