i had an awesome debate just now with a couple of folks i consider 🐐 onchain investors (they're on farcaster, btw) crux of the debate was: do you think Farcaster's growth to 1M DAU will be because of onchain dynamics (economic incentives)? or in spite of it? i come down strongly on the side of "because of" wdyt?

I think a mix of both, and each one branching out to satisfy users. There’s a balance here which puts us in a position where it’s not annoying enough like Twitter spam for us to leave and it’s not boring enough either (with financial incentives and opportunities available it’s a feast everyday).

not a single doubt in my mind: because of it we'll get to a point on FC where people are just sharing their lives in open & cool ways, but we need to kick start it. obvious path for that is getting onchain natives here and earning (showing up everyday) and then make them feel lame for only posting ham frames 😂

You'll have to be more specific on what onchain dynamics (economic incentives) mean. I lean towards "in spite of" but if "onchain dynamics" means participants having greater opportunities to make a living out of what they build and create, and foster a stronger relationship with fans, then "because of".

100% because of it. To migrate folks precious attention from existing platforms requires leaning into crypto and using onchain components more prominently and for more obvious incentives.

Very strongly on the "because of" side. I had a discussion recently about whether Farcaster's success is guaranteed. My thoughts: We aren't even close to a tipping point, but over a long enough time horizon the onchain dynamics (digital property rights) will continue to erode the web2 platforms and creators will win

I'm totally in the 'because of' camp. Farcaster feels like a goldmine for airdrops. Like more i m there, the more chances I get for free stuff . Plus it's not super in your face farming, so it feels more natural to just use it all the time. You just get in the zone and use it, no pressure.

Because of. I’ve been on the receiving end of many airdrops. Farcaster seems to increase my surface area for engaging with things that’ll eventually reward me. “Free money” is an easy retention mechanism for the general pop. But less farming attached directly to FC so people just use it regularly.

It seems to be very based here.. I might have heard about farcaster before but it only got my attention once I started to built on base. It’s ahead of the curve but doesn’t have the users. If X starts to use onchain it will affect farcaster..
