bought a tv yesterday, hadn't owned one since 2007 i've got mixed feelings, but the wife thought it's better for the kids who'd been watching stuff on an ipad when we let them admittedly the kids were super excited, which reminded me how fun tv can be for kids what do you think, /parenting? good to have? a mistake?

Overall, I've found it to be useful in these areas. 1. Scarcity teaches cooperation. By having 1x TV, the family has to learn how to agree on which shows to watch and when. 2. A family TV can bring back the original meaning of social. 3. Easier to monitor content.

I think screens are good Biggest challenge with TV is putting it somewhere so that your room doesn’t organize entirely around it like it’s a shrine (unless it’s a dedicated media room)

We are almost exclusively shared screens (tv) over individual (iPad). Better for shows and games to be social and communal so we can discuss and enjoy together.

Good to have. Better content control than an iPad. Good to normalize it (friends will have access to TV as they get older). We were told recently by a child development therapist it's better to normalize TV and make it no big dealβ€”especially if you watch any tv with your wife. Demonstrates healthy relationship to TV.

as long as it doesn't stand as the central piece in the middle of the main room of the house, I think it's great.

Good to have. Especially when you watch it together. We have the evening ritual after dinner: 30 min of tv (movies split on 3/4 days or an episode of a docuserie) then 15 min book reading, then go to bed.

been there, done that (no TV between 2004 - 2021) 1. TV only accessible via chromecast via my phone 2. No subscription service: harder to binge watch 3. Via vodaphone internet subscription we get access to trad TV channels. That means ads and limited choice.

I find TV boring, so i never had one. Got one for kids, quickly returned it in a week. Bought a projector; now Saturday is a family movie night. We, somehow, kept kids away from screens and got them busy with sports, activities.

Yes as long as it’s in a designated room separate from the eating area
