What's the best ultra-simple app for note-taking on your phone? I just want to click the app and start making a note, then organize it.

okay tried experimenting with Obsidian and it seems interesting. I used OneNote on desktop before, so the migration might be smooth. one thing off is that you have to pay $100/yr for syncing between devices. seems a lot, especially given in other apps i had it for free. do you have any x-mas free trials @kepano? :)

i’m not sure if android has a good equivalen but on iOS i use apple shortcut to trigger a popup (see picture) the only thing that this does is it saves some text to a predefined location on my file system in my specific case as .md file inside my obsidian folder

I use Obsidian for serious note taking (I travel with a BT keyboard) but if I "just need to write something down real quick" then I just Google Keep.

apple notes is very minimal but also gives you enough flexibility to organise and customise your note taking experience

I’ve enjoyed Bear. Syncs across all devices. Markdown and tag support. Just open and start typing.

I use Things3 as my "inbox" for notes, then organize/process them into Obsidian when I'm on the go. (See link) Things3 is the best way to quick capture things from my phone, apple watch or desktop with quick shortcuts and have access to it x-platform. https://notes.andymatuschak.org/zUP4GuzPF33dWkZPiu9N6V5

Minimal! minimal.app > free > notes decay if not interacted with (can be turned off) > pretty, has themes > amazing markdown support > cool features like one click publish to a site, auto add tasks to calendar, and export to email client - all out of the way and optional > my go to for “need to jot down now”

It’s interesting how many people in the replies use Obsidian I use Roam Research but it’s mobile app sucks. I should check out Obsidian 👀

I use Roam Research, but honestly its missing a mobile optimization. I might try Obsidian.
