Communities lie on a spectrum in terms of their origins: either they have been created to achieve a goal, or they appear to have been created almost by default; no purpose, they just exist. Who can harness the latent power of those default communities? What power do they have?

There is enormous interest in building new movements today. But you don’t have to start anew if you want to change the world. Build where passion already exists, and is latent, waiting to be awakened. —— Very excited to write this essay for /folklore — read below

I would really benefit from some advice Last year, I built a house search product for people seeking places to rent, called Housematch Two months ago, I joined a social impact startup that helps homeless people get jobs and find places to rent (150 ppl, raised an impressive series A this year) My colleagues are desperate to use Housematch in their work. One of them wrote 700 words to advocate to leadership. I’ve never felt so close to PMF I estimate it could save my company $100,000 per year I want to charge a subscription for it But I would also have to do 2 weeks work to add features to achieve those savings (would probs take holiday time) I feel very apprehensive about this inevitable negotiation Why? - i feel odd about negotiating hard against my company, and I feel a bit like I’m working both sides - I want to continue in my job in the nice work environment - there’s something about exploiting monetising the social impact aspect Advice much appreciated

Struggles for “justice” among the politically correct crowd, Roy notes, are no longer so much about human rights and inclusion in the mainstream as about special dispensations for the self and the subculture. In Noema

Midnight update: productscore works. Design tips very much encouraged. Everything black and blue needs to be replaced with fades and shadows

What Counts as "Strategic", and why not just say "Profitable?" When you hear the term "strategy," you should always be suspicious. But over a long enough time period, every company is defined by the strategic choices it made, and by the ones it missed. https://capitalgains.thediff.co/p/strategy

Above all, this UK election was symbolic of the emergence of new political forums and a rejection of traditional authority. Senior figures even of the Labour Party lost seats to independents and political upstarts. The internet, barely a generation old, has replaced the older media guard which filtered politics for the normal voter. Oozification is everywhere, the world is getting increasingly complex, and our systems for governing it are decentralising on new frontiers and centralising on others. https://studio.ribbonfarm.com/p/fear-of-oozification
