Alcohol and offspring The study (PMID: 38044754, published in the journal Andrology) showed that even moderate alcohol consumption by men can negatively affect sperm quality, and these changes persist longer than previously thought — up to 3 months or more. alcohol → oxidative stress in the liver → systemic signal to the male body → epigenetic and biochemical changes in spermatogenesis These changes are interpreted by the body as "living in a stressful environment," and spermatozoa are "reprogrammed" to pass on adaptive mechanisms to offspring. These changes are harmful, not beneficial, and they lead to cognitive and behavioral impairments in children. Spermatogenesis lasts approximately 64-74 days, that is, almost 3 months. Even if a man stops drinking a month before conception, there may be spermatozoa in his seminal fluid that were formed during regular alcohol consumption. Men should completely abstain from alcohol 3 months before the planned conception.

How not to lose muscle while losing weight?💪🏻 Fresh from science: A 16-week study showed that just dieting is not such an idea. Effects of caloric restriction with different faces of exercise on fat loss in people living with type 2 diabetes: A secondary analysis of the DOSE-EX randomized clinical trial Mark P P Lyngbæk et al. J Sport Health Sci. 2024. (PMID: 39427878, 2024, University of Copenhagen) 🚨A no - workout diet → -3.5% fat, but also -2.7% muscle (that is, you lose not only fat, but also what you built in the gym) 🚨Workouts 3 times a week → fat goes away faster (-6.3%), but muscle goes away anyway (-1.9%). 🚨 Train 6 times a week → -8% fat and muscle in place (-0.2%). https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2095254624001571?via%3Dihub

Eggs and longevity The consumption of whole eggs by the elderly (70+ years old) up to 6 times a week is associated with a 17% reduction in the risk of death from all causes and 29% from cardiovascular pathology. -splitting into several meals is healthier than sparse but large portions. -more frequent use (7 or more)₽ did not provide additional benefits, and perhaps even has a U-shaped dependence when too frequent use ceases to be useful. - cancer mortality has not changed Egg Consumption and Mortality: A Prospective Cohort Study of Australian Community-Dwelling Older Adults Holly Wild et al. What affects the level? NUTRITION: Include natural adaptogens in your diet: ashwagandha, L-theanine, rhodiola, etc. HABITS: — regular sports, but without fanaticism (overtraining = high). — quality NIGHT sleep. — meditation, breathing techniques, relaxation without gadgets. — Stress minimization (avoiding toxic people and unnecessary information noise). WHAT DEPLETES YOUR ADRENAL GLANDS? — lack of sleep and sticking to the phone before going to bed. — constant coffee and energy drinks. — chaos in the daily routine and nutrition.

CORTISOL: YOUR PERSONAL HORMONE OF STRESS AND SUCCESS Cortisol is not just a "stress hormone." It's your inner alarm clock, your energy, your engine. But if he gets out of control, he turns into your most insidious enemy. ❌ LITTLE: — constant fatigue, even if you sleep for 10 hours — a dull feeling in the head, it is difficult to concentrate — weakness, low blood pressure, you just want to lie down — wounds heal poorly and illnesses last a long time 🚨 A LOT: — anxiety, irritability, aggression — pressure spikes, headaches — digestive problems (sometimes indigestion, sometimes fever) — insomnia, despite fatigue It should be neither low nor high, but correct. Big news today: GLP-1 shortage is over. This will have big implications for compounding pharmacies, patients but much much more Essentially, FDA declared not that Ozempic/Wegovy (semaglutide) shortage resolved, meaning compounded GLP-1s are no longer allowed, tanked HIMS stock. For perspective, ~25% of GLP-1s are compounded, serving millions of patients. And a big source of revenue for compounders that have shifted biz models, but even more so developed these into robust treatments (ex: B12/sema combo) Compounders are now challenging in court to continue production, tirzepatide is already in court, semaglutide cases likely will join in. During this time, while the current lawsuit ongoing, FDA is maintaining its enforcement discretion. Now here is where this turns another corner:

Daytime sleep Is there any benefit from daytime sleep? An interesting article was published in Sleep Health magazine in 2023: "Is there an association between daytime napping, cognitive function, and brain volume? A Mendelian randomization study in the UK Biobank Valentina Paz et al. Sleep Health. 2023 Oct." Sample: 378,932 participants Method: Genetic analysis of daytime sleep habits and neuroimaging data Results People who regularly sleep during the day have a larger total brain volume. Such sleep promotes cognitive resistance to age-related decline in function. Regular daytime sleep is associated with a slowdown in brain aging by 2.6–6.5 years. Genetic analysis has shown that daytime sleep habits correlate with a 15.8 cm3 increase in total brain volume, which is associated with a lower age-related decrease in brain volume and neuroprotection.

Are you using Mounjaro (tirzepatide) for diabetes management? I wanted to share a recent experience that might be helpful for those considering or currently using Mounjaro Mounjaro is a medication designed to help control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. While it's often highlighted for its weight loss benefits, it's crucial to remember that it's primarily a diabetes treatment. My wife, who isn't overweight (around 130 pounds or 55 kg), uses it specifically for her diabetes. Recently, she experienced significant stomach pain, which led us to the emergency room. Given her family history of gallbladder issues, we were particularly cautious. After thorough examinations, the doctors determined that it was a side effect of Mounjaro. Common gastrointestinal side effects of Mounjaro include: Nausea Diarrhea Decreased appetite Constipation Abdominal pain Heartburn These side effects are usually temporary and may subside as your body adjusts to the medication. Infant pheromones act through the olfactory bulb, activating the limbic system of the brain, the same area responsible for emotions, attachment, and motivation. Unlike adult sexual pheromones, they do not cause arousal, but direct behavior towards caring and protection. Lactone cis-6-dodecene-4-olide This substance is found in the skin secretions of infants and in breast milk. It enhances attachment and maternal instincts, as well as suppresses stress reactions. Olamide It is a lipid compound found in the biological fluids of infants, including sweat and skin secretions. It has a calming and hypnotic effect, helping parents to adapt more easily to child care. Pheromone related to lactation Certain volatile compounds released by the baby's skin stimulate the production of prolactin in the mother, enhancing lactation. This is one of the mechanisms explaining why the smell of your own baby helps a nursing mother to maintain sufficient milk. A.Dzidzaria

Coffee and tea: do they prolong life? A literature review of 71 articles showed that moderate consumption of coffee and tea can be beneficial. 🔬 results: ✅ -19% risk of stroke - 3-5 cups of coffee a day reduce the likelihood of stroke. ✅ -6% risk of arrhythmia⚡️ - 300 mg of caffeine per day (approximately 3 cups) reduces the risk of atrial fibrillation. ✅ -11% risk of heart failure❤️ – 4 cups of coffee a day are associated with a reduced likelihood of heart failure. ✅ -12% risk of coronary heart disease - coffee improves vascular function, reducing the risk of coronary heart disease. ✅ -24% of deaths from all causes – moderate consumption (3-5 cups of coffee or 3 cups of green tea) is associated with a marked reduction in the risk of premature death. Conclusion:Moderate consumption of coffee and tea is not only safe, but can also be part of a longevity strategy. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1050173821000888?via%3Dihub

Intriguing paper making the rounds this morning by Peter Visscher et al. in Nature about the future of Polygenic Gene Editing for reducing disease risk in embryos for complex diseases! Discusses about how a few variants dramatically decrease diseases like diabetes or schizophrenia. It's speculative but fascinating. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-024-08300-4
