Alcohol and offspring The study (PMID: 38044754, published in the journal Andrology) showed that even moderate alcohol consumption by men can negatively affect sperm quality, and these changes persist longer than previously thought — up to 3 months or more. alcohol → oxidative stress in the liver → systemic signal to the male body → epigenetic and biochemical changes in spermatogenesis These changes are interpreted by the body as "living in a stressful environment," and spermatozoa are "reprogrammed" to pass on adaptive mechanisms to offspring. These changes are harmful, not beneficial, and they lead to cognitive and behavioral impairments in children. Spermatogenesis lasts approximately 64-74 days, that is, almost 3 months. Even if a man stops drinking a month before conception, there may be spermatozoa in his seminal fluid that were formed during regular alcohol consumption. Men should completely abstain from alcohol 3 months before the planned conception.
