If we had an opt-in "read receipt" mode, a la Instagram Stories or group chats, for casts, would you turn it on?

I don't know it seems a little intrusive from the reader perspective. I don't want people thinking I saw their content and didn't care about it because I didn't like or engage. I would on the other hand like a more accurate count of how many views the cast has gotten

no, most people don’t leverage it in a healthy way and it ends up being a toxic feature that affects people negatively.

would use for group chats -- not sure an option is needed there tbh for individual 1:1 chats: - iMessage does it in a way that each user opts in independently of others - WhatsApp makes it reciprocal where if you turn off yours, you can't see read status from others I prefer the WhatsApp approach for 1:1s

no— i haven’t found the obsession with attention via Instagram stories to be particularly healthy (not to say i’m immune). i also like the idea that casts are launched into the infinite expanse that is the whole internet waiting for the serendipitous traveler to discover. read receipts feel local and limiting.

Hmm my product head: What problem does this solve? This creates problems for me. The only thing read receipts do for me are make me feel guilty for not answering people more quickly. 🤔
