Thought exercise: imagine you’re dead tomorrow. Your work friends will be utterly devastated. For a few weeks. Then they move on. Your family, partner, maybe a few friends will be devastated and will suffer your loss forever. Your internet friends might not even know what happened.

I think sometimes its okay to disappear because the people who truly care and matter (internet friends or not) would ask where you are and likely find out that you passed. I was thinking today about how web 3 memorials will likely exist and will likely be a good place to preserve/honor somebody's memory 4ever.

that's why you have to set up a scheduled tweet informing ppl of your demise that you must remember to update every single day if you're still alive (⌒_⌒;)

There are some internet accounts that were very active and then went silent one day. I think about them sometimes

Even remote working. if you dont' have their next of kin details then one day they'd just stop replying to messages etc. My co-founder and I (different continents, only connected via us) actually thought about this and very simple fix in that case of course, just ensue we have next of kin details.

My family don't even have wallets to log in here so they wouldn't tell you. Jokes aside - this kind of news spreads fast so I'm pretty sure you'll know I logged out for good

customers are waiting on me to push an update very soon so they would be very upset, confused, etc. those who don't find out until very late will get mad at lack of email responses up until that point.

This actually sort of happened to me. One of my friends that I met in crypto back in 2018 passed away under very weird circumstances. I messaged her a bunch of times but I just assumed she ghosted me then I got pregnant fell out of the loop for a bit then one day I find out she’s been dead for over a year.

"it'll pass" I've given this some thought, but it's just an aspect of reality that's unpleasant but inevitable. living memory is what it is. good opportunity to do all that one positively can w/o dwelling on it or burning out. sarcophagus.io also helps.

Sometimes that does happen —people disappear—but there are a few people like that who’ve had such an impact we’d talk about them all the time. And sometimes they return! btw the older I get the more I do think about this

I've been thinking a lot about this - like any man with a man-flu, as soon as I get some minor health issue I consider the possibility of dying and become paranoid But jokes aside, this is worthwhile: https://x.com/girdley/status/1677652513686958082?s=46&t=yBO7KXyAy-sFgZjhNvsE6w
