honestly, it terrifies me that I have zero street smartness and that I do Germany-normal but here-silly things like walking around at night alone. Iโ€˜ve heard crime is 10x here. What do SF casters think? North Oakland strolls at night yey or ney?

Walking at night alone is one of my fav things but when I lived I EU it was much easier although Canada is not so bad

A friend of mine went to New Orleans from Canada for a job interview at a university. He asked the concierge for walking directions and the guy absolutely refused to let him walk to the point where he basically made him get in a cab.

Lol, yeah no. Back in 2014-15, Iโ€™d only gone to Oakland less than one can count on one hand. The third time I was there, I was walking to a friends place from West Oakland Bart and on a dark block alone, I heard what sounded like fireworks a few blocks over then suddenly whizzes through the air above me.

I always wanted to live in SF, then the city deteriorated and I changed my mind. Recently I heard that things were starting to get better but the idea that you couldnโ€™t walk down the street at night is freaky. Living in London I can walk anywhere and feel pretty safe as long as Iโ€™m not stupid. Wdyt?
