something discouraging to me re crypto is how many thought leaders (including fresher crypto VCs) recycle, not even remix, each other’s or web2 ideas theses that seem so intuitive and obvious are routinely lauded as top tier takes something wrong but net new is more interesting to read and better for the industry*

*because it leads to net new conversations and discussions, instead of the same tired takes that people default agree (confirmation bias) or disagree with

I definitely agree on the value of novelty And the lack of value in recycling But I do believe in the value of re-mixing, especially when it’s mixing ideas from two different worlds

Raising for a company is about money and everything else is icing on the cake. The ones I like aren’t very public facing. In crypto a lot of them want to be thought leaders, but very few have actually done anything to warrant it.

imo crypto VC is past its pinnacle bc of the low float / high FDV debacle. Simply too much funding has gone into replit infra with tokenomics that simply don't work anymore. Consumer Crypto requires lots of small tickets from angels aka rich whales. 50K can go a long way here on FC, no?

sometimes I feel there's a kind of prisoner's dilemma situation where many VCs and founders silently agree to launch tokens for quick exits and put up some kind of simple narrative to rationalise it, and such are the resulting narratives

What kind of ideas are you talking about? Just as you never get fired for choosing IBM, you don’t get fired for writing mid takes. It’s risky behaviour to say something new. Unfortunately for them, it’s only through risk that we will explore this new world.

There's a ton of groupthink and that's pretty normal. Time proven ideas stick around even if they're not going to be the thing that 10x the next unicorn. But they're legos we use to build from. Warpcast is familiar, much like a hybrid of X and reddit, but a vastly different experience or vibe on the user level. Familiar yet different. The biggest innovation is the creator economy that Moxie is building where we get paid for creating and giving attention. Which would not be possible without Farcasters commitment to a permissionless platform. I am almost sure all of these things aren't new. But the way they are being recombined feels new.

i have a lot of complicated feelings here. wrong but net new is definitely more interesting to read and better for the industry. but i also believe in “market as though to a marching parade, not a standing crowd”. i think it is still net positive for the space to repeat the most intuitive / obvious takes, for 1/ spaced repetition amongst ourselves (it is good to occasionally be reminded of things you already know/believe) and 2/ newer/less edgy entrants who maybe haven’t heard these takes yet idk there’s a fine line ofc. worry too much about being completely new/original and you might never post anything. also some people are better suited to working at the edge, others to amplifying the best existing messages we have. something something information-distribution supply chain and it taking a village to cross the chasm (idk what specific takes you’re referencing and i might also 🤦‍♂️ when i see them; even so, more abstractly,,)

the short form and temporal nature of social media doesn’t ever allow for a conversation to “settle” we rehash the same convos because as a collective, we don’t remember who said what, what the outcome of the conversation was, what sources it pulled from, etc. this is why blog culture > social media culture when it comes to productive discourse but blog culture doesn’t maximize status games the way social media does

I strongly agree. In this context, I believe the concept of 'community' holds even greater significance in Web3 than we may have thought. For example, the recent Meme coin cycle has introduced the idea of CTO (Community Take Over). I also think we need to encourage more diverse discussions on Farcaster.

Always be skeptical of "thought leaders". They can be used as an input but apply extensive filtering since "thoughts" tend to come with a lot of baggage, biases and assumptions.
