anybody have data on FB groups activity or usage? anecdotally surprised at how many people i’ve met IRL use it as a forum for their town, for new moms, for Rivian questions, for travel suggestions, for seeing if they’re dating the same guy, etc obvs i’m not meeting gen alpha so it’s an older demo but still

I think it’s kinda like new Craigslist? Buy sell and then regional forum. Not on there but I know people use it for that in rural communities for sure.

anecdotally, I was invited to a closed FB meme group in 2013 and ended up making friends with 30 or so chronically online people. that random group with maybe 300 people in it had a big, long term impact on my social life, and introduced me to totally new scenes in NYC that I wouldn't have found otherwise FB good?

I am shocked every time someone unironically uses Facebook as if no other option was ever created But the core group of physically local people you have no option but to talk to, HOA, town govt etc are locked in there

Anecdotal: We joined a group of young parents on the town where I live. Unreal the amount of engagement and value. People giving stuff away, organizing events, asking for advice, etc…

What kind of data within what kind of groups are you looking for? Just how much engagement you can get in 1 post? a month? how much work it is being a moderator? I've had my fair share of running and participating in facebook groups for different things.

I only used it at school to have a group with my class + groupchat. I thought that people are using Reddit for this kind of information not FB

Facebook is my main platform. I've been on there since 2008, but only super active since 2013. I've got a group that I started in 2019, and member of a ton of others. Audience on Facebook is *mostly* Millennials and Gen X. More activity happens in groups - in fact, FB is testing something with the creator bonus where certain creators are picked to get a bonus for group posts, so they're working on emphasizing groups more. The most active groups are shitposting groups and tag groups, but there's a LOT of niche interest groups - I found two groups that are dedicated to the type of rare severe leg fracture I sustained a couple months ago that's been a great source of information.
