as someone with a love-hate relationship with podcasts, i find this WILD but also i suspect the # of people who actually listen to a full pod, start to end, has gone down as # of pods has gone up also pls give a warm welcome to @etannechin, born + raised in the middle east and featured in NYT, Vice, Huff Post, etc

I pretty much am 100% full podcasts. I'll quit an episode if it's not my thing, and I'll quit a series if it's not my vibe twice in a row. Mostly I listen at 1.5x but if it's important or complex, I'll go down to 1x.

Seems hard to even categorically define the medium though right? Like I listen to plenty of BBC radio shows as podcasts, and plenty of highly produced audio documentary type shows. Only on occasion will I listen to the classic “people just recording themselves hamming it up” type shows, like when I’m anxious or hungover or just needing to turn my brain off.

This was true of me until a year or two ago. I’ve now made it through maybe 10-15 podcast episodes. But it’s rare that I want or have the time and attention span to listen to something other than music.

I didn't listen to one for a long time, what eventually got me into it is just that YouTube channels became podcasts. I just watch them on there, I've never had a dedicated podcast app, there's already too many apps.
