there are 100 days until 2025 and new crypto projects are still using Discord to build and manage their community

fwiw if they were on discord already its kinda hard to convince a whole system of mods, users, roles etc to migrate to something new - esp if that involves users having to pay e.g. a $5 signup fee. i do think something like FC for public + TG for private is a superior community management stack if you're starting from scratch. but i get why a project wouldn't move off discord if its doing fine there rn

Discord hurts my brain one of the things farcaster saved me from I simply don’t engage or invest in anything other than farcaster community and token on base Keeps it as simple as possible for me

Is there a future where the trade offs are still worth it, for example in the gaming space where there is already a big community of users, it may be easier to get new users to your project to add a discord channel than to try a new protocol? Happy for the disruption and the future, though reckon their is still valid reasons for launching your community via discord for some.

discord has a strong community of gamers, many of whom are also crypto users, which is why it's much easier to build an initial community there since many people have a discord account (i personally don't like discord) Plus, it's free

Should we tell them? Or do we wait for them to see the farcaster light.

Maybe Farcaster should have an exclusive grant program to port full Discords over to Farcaster. Give the users free accounts, give the owners some money to get tooling for bots, organization, pay a frame dev, etc

"go where your users are" - if those projects want to attract users from last cycle, then discord is their place

Discord is actually great. Fine-grained access control, programmability, and the voice chat experience is far better than any competitors.

Would you say Farcaster needs to stop pursuing Reddit-style communities and focus on Discord features instead?

Well, to some, it’s easier to use and navigate discord (maybe that’s why)

what's a fully featured alternative at this point? for the median user / project to switch, you need a product that serves the middle of the technology adoption curve. tbh you are very far into the early adopter part of the curve - most users out there can't keep up with you
