It's so incredibly sad, US forests and parks are such a valuable part of what makes living in the US so special. My sister-in-law works on forests/parks and said the situation is really bad

Not joking - something tells me Trump doesn't spend much time in hiking in national parks.

You’re asking on the wrong platform lol this is an Elon question. It’s because there are 19yos randomly firing people without any forethought or strategy.

Trumps wanted to expand drilling since his first term, there's about 350 parks that aren't as protected and would be easier to expand drilling into to, especially if parks fall into disrepair. Trumps made environmental issues a "woke issue " saying that progress in drilling on national parks is an ideological issue, so that's more of a reason for him to specially target these places

The rationale is it’s the first step to opening up National parks to private interests. Every DOGE decision is to dismantle the collective good to make the one percent richer. People ask if you are surprised because everything they’ve laid out so far is towards this effort. There isn’t a national treasure that is safe from this grift.

It's quite on brand for the administration isn't it? They are cutting as much as they can and parks don't typically have a great business case (because they're not meant to be money-makers). A cynic would say they are applying the "starve the beast" strategy. Defund the people who take care of these resources so you can say the resources have been poorly managed and then privatize them.

Out of all the firings, this thread hit me the hardest and bothered me the most, especially considering the current status of the Bird flu. Just feels like we're becoming less and less prepared as a nation for what amounts to pennies saved. https://x.com/Farzad_MD/status/1890587835184324644

It's part of the overall plan to destroy the efficacy of XYZ government programs to either outsource what they just gutted to themselves/oligarchical friends, or to clear the way for whatever the private companies want. In this case it seems like a combo of the two - sell now "underutilized" lands to private developers and open up more opportunities for drilling/mining/resource firms to pop holes and drop pipes wherever they want.

Some extrapolation from history in CEE here … when you want to sell, industrialize or mine, you first defund the orgs taking care of it. It then becomes a problem because nobody’s taking care of it and someone steps in to save it. Boom 💥 a plan just worked, only you’re couple of parks short and someone couple of $Bs long
