learning that people can’t imagine how things look or don’t have an internal monologue is like discovering a new species. literally wtf how do you live like this

I honestly thought people were trolling but it feels like too many people are in on the joke for it to be fake 🫨

In reference to his visual imagination, Aldous Huxley notes in the Doors of Perception (1954): “I am and, for as long as I can remember, I have always been a poor visualizer.” “Words, even the pregnant words of poets, do not evoke pictures in my mind.” And the fact that Aldous could write so vividly and in turn invoke such vivid imagery in my mind, and yet he sees none of it blows my mind. Transmission of coherence 🧠..🧠

My mom is a 1 and my dad is a 5. They get in arguments all the time over if something will fit somewhere, where my mom insists that it will/wont and my dad insists on getting the measuring tape out.

yeah this one broke my brain when i first read about it. i’ve always struggled with understanding anything that i could not visualize in picture form. meditation felt very juju like because of this. the person would ask me to visualize and it wouldn’t make sense to me 😭 same with the internal dialogue. wdym you don’t talk to yourself all the time???? how do you process things in your brain then?? 😵‍💫

I hear and see people’s trauma daily for work and since I can’t visualize it, it doesn’t effect me or my memory as much i think… its an advantage in many respects.

always find this fascinating - I have both a internal monologue at all times and visualize everything (that's how I would study -- I would cram and would be able to see the pages in my mind when I took a test)

Dude, I just read this and I'm shocked myself. I'm often told that I'm a closed-minded and self-centered person, even though I'm just constantly thinking and imagining cool stuff. Turns out the reason is that some people don't have anything going on inside. WHAT?
