Discord was dead to me the second they backpedaled from a web3 login.

non, because sometimes we want cranky products that make ourselves look like agents in post-apocalyptic settings

I can't stand it, feels too much like trying to work at a slot machine with the random dinging, constantly desperate to figure out what's even trying to get my attention. Also it is absolutely snitchware. Everything is logged and monitored. Assume everything you say on any discord will become publicly available some day. It's an app for kids to talk to each other about video games, and nothing else. I do really like some of the baked in funding mechanism stuff, making it super easy for community members to donate for special features. Someone is definitely going to make a decentralized end to end encrypted platform similar to Discord some day and I think it'll do well.

It's just a glorified IRC server, unless you are terminally online in these channels you're going to miss 90% of the conversations. Search is bad (in app) and non-existent (outside of the app). I can see why teams use it for productivity, but for somebody casually interested in a project or topic, I don't see how it's in any way better than a subreddit or forum, or even farcaster (although my opinion is that farcaster/twitter-like platforms are equally as bad for following conversations). All of that coupled with the fact that basically damn near all projects have been exploited on discord, leading to scams, it's made me never want to join another crypto discord ever again.

I like Discord. The problem is that most people want to build the most sophisticated channel structure... Just get the minium needed of the ground and grow with it. Scaling a discord server is something the tool handles quite well

It’s the problem we generally have in the crypto community, something needs to be accessible to get mass acceptance. When you want a community that isn’t public, doesn’t cost much, and takes low skill to join and use, Discord fits the bill.

discord is a necessary evil atp, everyone knows all real BD goes down on TG while it's much easier to build communities on discord.

I onboarded to Discord through NFTs, made sense where there was a lot of crossover with gamers/metaverse. A few years ago Slack was the go-to for Crypto communities. But I think they killed it with their premium upgrade requirements. I really wish there was a crypto native option but decentralised clients have a tiny amount of users and are often fighting for the same userbase rather than working on a shared protocol. Most I’ve used have been in beta for years and still feel like it too.

Absolute shit. Often impossible to communicate in crypto channels because of aggressive anti spam and abuse automod bots. Was in one recently, couldn't post a stuck transaction hash because their shit bot autodeleted any post with a hex string in it.
