How do you decide which book to read next? Historically for me it’s more flavor of the week (based on a friend’s rec, “You Also Might Like” algos, what the library highlights, etc) I’m starting to come around to a more forward-looking, topic-driven approach (kinda like a college syllabus)

depending on the current hunger. usually bookmarked at mind for about 5 tracks at least. read them concurrently in fives. approach the next one that optimizes the previous immediate reads' practical output.

I have a running list of questions or topics that I don't really understand and just read based on those. By college syllabus, do you mean you read the required reading for a topic?

I have a curated list of books that I want to read and my usual approach is to choose the one that excites me the most at the moment. The decision often depends on my current mood or if there's a particular topic I've been eager to learn more about.

Like others here, I keep a list of books I'd like to read. What I choose from that list when the time comes to start something new is largely down to how I'm feeling at the time.
