At some point the left need to admit this whole "waiting for a savior" thing isn't a strategy. It's cope.

We’re living through what feels like a Protestant Reformation of social media. Each new platform — Threads, Mastodon, Bluesky, Post — is its own denomination, complete with distinct status games and hierarchies. You might be a cardinal on Mastodon and a peasant on Threads. https://www.joanwestenberg.com/the-cathedral-of-the-blue-bird/

You can be enlightened, stoic and at peace and still tell people to fuck off when they need to fuck off. It’s called balance.

In 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of All Saints' Church in Wittenberg, fracturing the unified Catholic hierarchy that had dominated European spiritual and social life for centuries. In 2022, Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion, and we're still dealing with the aftermath. 🧵

Thanks to starter packs, the top accounts on bluesky are just the top progressive accounts from Twitter which is fantastic for them and absolutely shit for anyone trying to build from scratch who wasn’t a Twitter celebrity in 2018. I don’t think Warpcast has this problem, partly because people aren’t moving here specifically trying to recreate Twitter - which is exactly what bluesky users are attempting to do.

Elite education looks the same as housing in 2007 — a market propped up by cheap debt, artificial scarcity, and mass delusion about underlying value. But we’re not looking at one bubble — it’s a triple threat. A wealth bubble, a debt bubble, and a cultural bubble all reinforcing each other. https://www.joanwestenberg.com/why-elite-education-is-the-next-ponzi-scheme-to-collapse/

There’s a lot of long and detailed lists of end-of-year questions going around for you to ask yourself. Get some insight and so on. I keep coming back to the only question that matters. Frasier, season 1, episode 24. “Are you happy?”

December is the month where The Gym People post “finish strong,” and I respond by finishing an entire cheesecake in one sitting. The universe craves balance.

There's something deeply unsettling about the Fermi Paradox. It’s not just the old “where is everyone?” line—no, the real joke is how every single fix to the Fermi Paradox just spawns three more bizarre cosmic conundrums. You tug at one thread of the universe’s sweater and the whole thing unravels into a pile of tangled string and incomprehensible entropy. https://theexpeditionist.substack.com/p/the-fermi-paradox-is-fractal

We’ve turned ‘networking’ into digital hoarding—collecting connections that mean nothing. But social capital isn’t financial capital—it doesn’t scale infinitely. Trying to maintain too many connections dilutes value. https://www.joanwestenberg.com/why-your-social-capital-is-probably-worthless/

I sat down with a founder on Warpcast to give some advice on how to hire marketers. For context, I don’t do marketing anymore, but I’ve been the CMO for some startups, ran an agency etc. and I’ve hired several teams. I wrote down some notes. might be useful for founders hiring their first marketing roles:

You are not a storm-tossed ship, helplessly drifting on the waves of circumstance. You are the ocean itself, with depths of strength and resilience. And you are indirectly, personally responsible for the sinking of the Titanic. Nice work, asshole.
