TIL Mark Twain’s pen name derived from songs he heard Mississippi River boat pilots sing to help them navigate water depths …”quarter twain”…“half twain”…“mark twain”- a 12-foot depth, meaning safe water to navigate through

What shower-oriented decisions can I make to lower my carbon footprint without sacrificing my so-fresh-so-cleanness? Eg. using quality bar soap instead of body wash in hard plastic containers

How do you decide which book to read next? Historically for me it’s more flavor of the week (based on a friend’s rec, “You Also Might Like” algos, what the library highlights, etc) I’m starting to come around to a more forward-looking, topic-driven approach (kinda like a college syllabus)

I recently moved into a Technical Program Manager role at a tech company that’s very traditionally organized (in terms of hierarchy, dept silos, etc) I’m still a DAO nerd at heart, and it’s been pleasantly surprising to see how much I’ve learned in DAO land is directly applicable to my day job

Crepuscular consciousness - that place between awake and sleep - is such a strange and fascinating mental reality Somewhere between day dreaming and night dreaming Sometimes I reflect on the thoughts and images that pass my awareness as I’m falling asleep or waking up and I’m like…huh🤔

Freida McFadden is my guilty pleasure for psychological thrillers. The intellectual in me says “spend your time on more meaningful, timeless literature” …but McFadden’s final-pages plot twists are just too hard to resist

TIL When Norm Macdonald told the infamous moth joke on Conan, he made most of the set up for it on the fly (and based it on a Chekov play) to fill an unplanned 5-min segment. Dude was so talented https://youtube.com/shorts/KH9tWc0Nioc?si=kHwsjug2iolvuWwH https://youtu.be/R07ijRHIdgM?si=STnMFOwEKSfCxZIe

I really like the Gilded Age show<>official podcast content experience. The show is fantastic on many levels and that’s only enhanced by the analysis and behind the scenes perspective the podcast offers

Personal data tracking nerds - I highly recommend ATracker. Super customizable, allows for granular reports, csv export, can set multi-faceted goals, has both mobile and web apps. Their iPhone widget is hands down the best widget I’ve used https://atracker.pro/home.html

FC hive mind - what are some exemplary round up reports you’ve seen? For context, I am working on a round up report for season 1 of @hatsprotocol. We want to highlight all the key milestones, community voices, ecosystem growth, case studies, adoption, etc Looking for examples of similar reports for inspiration 🙏

“We forget quick enough…today’s conveniences were yesterday’s magic” An excerpt from Inland by Téa Obreht that feels particularly resonant as I increasingly immerse myself in the conveniences of modern day tech, especially LLMs and gpu-based compute applications

TIL Basquiat's SAMO© graffiti tag was short for "same old, same old" and it stemmed from a conversation he and his collaborator Al Diaz had while stoned, talking about smoking the same old shit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAMO?wprov=sfti1

Travelcasters: I'm planning a trip to Hawaii in mid-October. It's my first time and know very little about it. Any recommendations on island(s), activities, and/or places to stay? I tend to be more active on vacations (hiking, excursions, exploring cities, etc) vs relaxing on the beach.
