Drew from Duolingo, if you’re on Farcaster and see this cast please know that I respect your game in the Emerald League this week. Very impressed you came through with 2k XP today after a long battle for #1 this week. I am officially ceding on account of me needing to spend time with my family this Sunday evening. Congrats, Drew.

Nature is poetry in motion. I can't help but anthropomorphize this and imagine the white streak as a single, dried tear. Joy found in love.

I agree that memes should be regarded as living structures in a technical sense. Doing so makes it easier to reason about the phenomenon. But I’m not yet convinced that the meme-brain relationship is strictly parasitic. Like I think there’s an argument for certain flavors of memes being a critical component for human brain development (eg scientific ideas, musical tunes, culturally-imbued knowledge)…making the relationship mutualistic

“…memes should be regarded as living structures, not just metaphorically but technically. When you plant a fertile meme in my mind you literally parasitize my brain, turning it into a vehicle for the meme’s propagation in just the way a virus may parasitize the genetic mechanism of the host cell” ~N.K. Humphrey quoted in The Selfish Gene

In 2025 I’m structuring my book consumption around author kicks. For example, I kicked off this year on a Don Winslow kick. I’ve read a dozen or so of his books published from early 90s to 2024. It’s been fun to speed run his work and see how his writing has developed over the decades. I like this approach to book consumption because it really gives a feel for an author.

After 40 years, New Kids on the Block is still considered a boy band. Actively touring, all members are in their 50s, some with boys of their own. Do boy bands ever become man bands?
