Todays /success topic of the day: What’s one outdated practice or belief that you think needs to be challenged or discarded? I think we need to change the practice of saying “the customer is always right.” This can lead to toxic client relationships and to unreasonable expectations. It’s ok to say NO. What do you think?

Definitely traditional work hours my homie: The notion that productivity is solely tied to a 9-to-5 schedule overlooks the benefits of flexible working hours, which can enhance work-life balance and overall productivity. which this place is the perfect example of...

seeing all of these companies mandating return to office is just an indication that they don’t understand that today’s workers. you can get so much more work out of remote employees if they don’t need to spend the time traveling to and from work. also having them sit in an office with no interaction is just pointless

The “man always pays for dinner out” is tired and patriarchal… sometimes even transactional. My manhood doesn’t feel threatened when a woman wants to pick up the check, I find it to be sweet and a nice change.

I've always believed that this saying is only applicable at the retail store front level. Customers or clients can be difficult, and some try to take advantage of that relationship. There are some people out there who simply consider being a pain in the ass, a part of doing business. For those people I have to ask myself 'is the juice worth the squeeze'? (I'm paraphrasing someone there; I don't remember who). If the answer to that is no, then I'll thank them for considering and choosing me, but I'm not going to be able to work with them. You know, in a perfect world. Sometimes though I just have to grin and bear it and wait for the weekend.

In Korea, there's a saying, "Customers are kings." It's similar to what you said, but it's a stronger meaning. Customers have become kings because of such bad practices. In restaurants, some people think of their employees as servants. More and more customers have become kings, and the people who run restaurants are tired. Of course, it was about a small number of people. Now, the social atmosphere has changed a lot and we are starting to point out customers who have become kings. Customs that were bad for changing societies have to disappear and the right culture has to be established.

The culture of using cash in Japan. Japan has advanced anti-counterfeiting technology for bills, so cash is highly trusted. Even now, there are still many stores that only accept cash. When I tell people from abroad about this, they’re always surprised. While it’s important technology, it feels outdated.

"The customer is always right" is wrong ... i worked at an upscale bar and this regular who lived across the street was acting like a jerk so i kicked him out. He then called 911 on me from outside the bar, they came a few minutes later and took him to jail for public intoxication. Insane entitlement

I think sometimes but not with every customer especially not old customers who are really trustworthy. Otherwise, you’re right. I believe that starting relationships should not be done carelessly. It should begin with the guidance of psychologists and psychiatrists so that toxic and harmful relationships 1/2

Agreed! 90% of the time the customer is wrong. I'm not sure what company used the slogan "A well-educated customer is our best customer" but that should be the norm. I would get rid of some of the old-school superstition stuff like "knock on wood," Really! wtf!

Another outdated belief is the idea that 'failure is the end.' Many people see failure as a final stop and miss the chance to learn from it. In reality, failure is often a stepping stone to success and a valuable opportunity for growth. Instead of viewing failure negatively, we should embrace it as a necessary part of the journey.

To say that: '[put anything here] is not possible.' For a long time I lived in a world full of scepticism, doubts & fears. I barley took a risk because I needed to plan everything perfectly, I was not confident enough or someone just projected his/her own doubts onto me. Now, I am cultivating more and more a mindset that 'everything is possible'. Maybe I don't know fully how, and when, what and where. But at least I have the confidence that everything I put into my head, becomes reality. It changed my Life! Now, everything seems for me brighter & when someone comes to me now with an idea, I am not sceptic about the idea but more curious. Out of which Innovation is born.

I totally agree 👍 Setting boundaries is important for a healthy working relationship. Another outdated belief that needs to be rethought is the idea that multitasking is productive. In reality, focusing on one task at a time often leads to better results.

I definitely agree with that one We also need to change the practice of saying "reach for the stars, and if you don't get there, land on the moon"... idk if many have heard this one before. But for me it's like telling someone they don't have to strive for being the president, they can stop at vice president... we should always strive to reach for the stars, the sky is definitely not our limit

“im not creative” how many people have said that as a consequence of having been raised as they were, or brought up by an educational system that didn’t worry about bringing the best out of them, but forcing them into constraints. you need to be an engineer. if not you can’t add value to life so we get to see only the creative genious of those that are crazy enough to not care about what people say how many voices have we not heard? how many paintings have not been painted? we are all creative it’s on our nature as human beings

The belief that "men who cry are weak" is outdated and harmful. Emotions are a natural part of the human experience, and crying is a healthy way to express feelings, whether it's sadness, joy, or frustration.
