Not sure if this is special but for every scheduled meeting I research what I can about the person, what they work on, their interests, etc (basically their Twitter, personal website, LinkedIn, some blog posts) so that I can have a more meaningful meeting with them and get past the basics

what were the first steps you took to get into the documentary world?

No set release date I have beyond 2024 since involves a ton of different factors. The schedule is finish editing (will wrap up this year), get accepted to a film festival (depends on their timeline), then get a distributor. I would love a watch party eventually but trying to not get too ahead of ourselves yet

First came across bitcoin in 2011 in college and wrote a paper on it. My views on it at the time were it's interesti￼ng but very negative since it was mostly associated with illicit activity. Took me about 3 years to change my view and Coinbase was a main factor in me feeling it was becoming more legit￼

Investment meeting wise it hasn't been as much emerging tech or unique use cases over the past few months since a lot of standard infra stuff or existing use cases/tech I've seen just improvements to it. ETHGlobal hackathons have been where I've seen the more innovative/unique stuff like crypto x AI intersection

What emerging technologies, and unique use cases, have excited you the most based on investment meetings so far in 2023?

Good but would say many founders have been holding off on raising over the summer due to the market conditions and lots of people being out generally / slower to respond so expecting this to pick up significantly later this year

Crypto is really useful for financing overall (e.g. UkraineDAO, ZachXBT legal defense) since you can easily raise globally and people don't have to make a new account. It will be applied more widely but it's still really early since the audience needs to be a bit more crypto savvy (e.g. wallet set up and funded)

What are your thoughts on crypto-based film financing? Do you think the model of Infinite Garden has the potential to be applied more widely, are you aware of any other interesting mechanisms?

Mine is more specific to crypto native funding but since we did a crowdfund on Mirror, it was all crypto addresses contributing to us. Unless they joined our Discord or follow us on Twitter, I have no way of contacting many of them so would use something like Deform to collect email addresses (didn't exist at the time)

What would you do differently if you had the knowledge you have now around what it takes to make a documentary?

That's neat! 

I could see a future eventually where it's common to have crypto funding and view gating via NFTs but it's still super early and doing a crypto native distribution instead of a traditional one now can come at a huge cost of getting mass distribution since requires a more crypto savvy audience

In line with documentaries - I see (and am working on) a future where all films & tv shows are distributed and made live via social networks usually for free. 

What do you think the future of documentaries / filmmaking is, as crypto becomes a key component?
