Getting annoyed at other people's entitlements has caused me to reflect on my own entitlements. You are not entitled to a single thing in this life. Not health nor wealth nor happiness. I think a lot of unhappiness is downstream of the mistaken belief that you deserve something you aren't getting

I feel like this is one of those things similar to what @cameron had said in our last /okbanger show... (if your reaction to "you don't need to reflect" is "hell yeah" you should probably reflect more, and if you disagree then you should reflect less) similarly here, if you think you are entitled then you probably should be questioning that, and if you think you don't deserve it then you probably do? I like the phrasing in point 8. in this feminist economy framework https://warpcast.com/christin/0xb31f412d

What's the inverse corollary of this? Does it also follow that we're not entitled to all the fears and anxieties in our life, too?

I donā€™t see people feeling entitled to health, wealth and happiness. I think Americans are rightly upset because healthcare, housing, even groceries, and the things that contribute to wellbeing (dare I say happiness) are becoming more and more inaccessible

So you mean even when Iā€™m working extremely hard for something, i should be doing it with a free mind and not be entitled to or expect to it actually succeeding and all that? šŸ˜•

Lifeā€™s so much more fulfilling when you are grateful for what you have rather than pissed for what you donā€™t. Thanks for the reminder of gratitude!

Agree with this wholeheartedly! That being said, other peopleā€™s entitlement doesnā€™t bother me as much as it used to. It used to feel really unfair, but Iā€™ve come to realize that people are naturally self-centered, often driven by the belief that they deserve something. I donā€™t think entitlement is inherently bad, thoughā€”it can sometimes serve as a strong motivator to push people forward, depending on how itā€™s channeled.

I would agree with one caveatā€¦ I would hope that my kids are entitled to unconditional love from myself and my wife, and to many other aspects of care during their childhood years. My old sayingā€¦ ā€œlose your expectations and you have nothing else to loseā€.

I agree with this, nothing is really yours and you donā€™t deserve anything from anyone A lot of unhappiness stems from people being entitled Then itā€™s easier said than done too

To me everyone should feel that theyā€™re deserving of something. Doing so is not necessarily tied to entitlement.

It's a powerful realization. Feeling entitled often creates unnecessary frustration when reality doesn't align with our expectations. By recognizing that we aren't owed anything, it can help shift our mindset towards gratitude for what we do have and motivation to work for what we want. Letting go of entitlement frees up mental energy to focus on what we can control, rather than being disappointed by what we think we deserve. It's a humbling but liberating perspective.

On a federal level, when you were talking about entitlements, they gotta get funded somehow. What are other sources of revenue for this past taxation of individuals and business? Not a snark, genuinely curious https://www.perplexity.ai/search/what-are-government-entitlemen-o3SYdoAyTR6K2513i7lSkw
