Farcaster is unique out of all the alt-socials because it caters to the very small slice of folks who think Elon’s doing a Great Job with X and also for some reason want an alternative The other platforms can leverage disgust for what X has become for growth

Interesting observation. I wonder if that’s why none of the other alts have seemed appealing to me. I’m drawn to vision, not reaction.

imho, disgust in something far away is a recent luxury that we don't necessarily appreciate enough. the best social networks probably learn what a disgust/rage-bound local optima looks like, and steers away into more celebratory/imaginative vibes.

One can simultaneously Like and Dislike Musk. Like his balls to not give a shit and poo-poo all established narratives. Dislike that twitter the product may actually be becoming worse. Though I am not sure if it was getting any better before him. It may have been inevitable.

Chiming in to represent the demographic who thinks he's a dangerous fascist hell bent on manipulating the media landscape toward his preferred narrative. I regard anyone who doesn't see him this way with significant suspicion and mistrust.

So true, regardless of what one thinks of Musk. I found that the corner of Blue Sky I was exposed to was bitter about X. Platforms seeded with bitter vibes are unpleasant to mingle in. Negative emotional valence is hard to build on 🤔 as much as some make fun of FC’s positivity, seems important for healthy growth.

much to say but tl;dr even if elon makes X financially viable, it will still be a failure compared to what Twitter was and the 'it still runs' elon fans are entirely missing the point and are wrong too, critically important political audio spaces ended up being embarrassments to the X brand b/c of technical problems

bluesky's biggest mistake was leaning into 'bitter bluechecks who want Twitter 2' demographic, but disgust-growth hacking doesn't work long term idk i think ppl who don't have gigantic brain worms ala 'lol elmo!!! get it????' but realize the public good / commons version of twitter is gone want to try rebuilding

I'd say it's a bit less endorsement and more recognition of the difficulty of the task and respect for Musk's ability to gsd, esp because many of us are founder builder types.

That slice of folks is fascinating. They seem generally smart & intellectually honest yet consistently rationalize his behavior they would ridicule (at best) from anyone else who holds the power he does. Ex: https://www.theverge.com/2023/2/14/23600358/elon-musk-tweets-algorithm-changes-twitter

Regardless of your opinion of Elon Musk I don't think anyone could deny that he's helped accelerate the decentralisation of social media. And decentralisation is something we all love

Excellent take @keccers.eth I am impressed by any & all super-high functioning brilliant people! AND/ALSO creative genius is normally weird and ugly at the edges But agree! I can dig the achievement & spectacle of Elon, & also hold strongly a desire for sovereign control of my computational destiny for me and for us all

I'll toss in one more vote for "lol definitely don't think Elon is doing a great job", but also I think Farcaster is small enough that it feels like people here have enough of a likeminded overlap on *something* that we're willing to give each other the benefit of the doubt.

There are enough people here that hate X. ofcourse, one's opinion can change over time and maybe people have started to warm up to X because it hasn't done any major fuck-ups recently. https://warpcast.com/dwr.eth/0x3c052937
