Happiness is incredibly adaptive. You can be just as happy with much worse living conditions or much better. Some good books on this are Stumbling on Happiness and Man's search for meaning

Yes, but more looming pressure. Big successes in my grandparents and parents' generations makes it feel like I need to succeed beyond what they achieved.

Hard to say. But I seem happier than most people now. @aman's point on adaptive happiness is good.

I think this varies so much person to person. I’d say I’m happier than my parents. But it’s got nothing to with the generation and more to do with having a more open mind and being more of an optimist

We (in developed nations) have more opportunity and time to reflect, and for leisure, than ever before. The *speed* of technology change is unprecedented. The rate is increasing. This comes with a new set of challenges to adapt, and thrive.

very insightful quote from charlie munger on this: 'The world is not driven by greed, it's driven by envy' so although everyone is 5x better off than the past, most people only think about what others have that they don't https://twitter.com/austen/status/1568606879609417735

i think every generation can reach same happiness highs given the abilities and constraints of their time also happiness even wasn’t a concept to strive toward in life until the 18th century https://hbr.org/2012/01/the-history-of-happiness

I am as happy as I make myself. And if every generation strived for that as well, then we’re the same level of happy but in a different time and circumstance.

It’s a mixed bag. Prior generations had constraints and the smallest of things gave them joy. We live in an age of abundance where the smallest of things give us pain.

People mistake comfort for happiness. Many would answer yes but dig deeper and it would be no. Overall I don’t think we are happier than previous generations
