I like the way I feel after reading a novel. My inner dialogue is observant and clear. It has words for things and processes things one after the other. Stark contrast to when I’m terminally online. I feel comparably distracted, absent, nonlinear and reactive.

I was exploring the reading space for awhile and landed on a hypothesis that I never got around to testing: reading novels gets you in flow state. All the user interviews I did pointed to this. Ultimately my app became all about getting users into flow state as quickly as possible. Anyhoo, now I’m here shilling debit cards. But I still read a lot!

Can I ask you something off topic about automod? I'm installing it now and can't see a rule for manually liking a cast to get it into the main feed.

I also feel reactive when on social. When you think about it, we’re being programmed to be reactive - reactions, notifications etc No real point just thinking out loud

Reading novels helps you focus and observe, while being constantly online leads to distraction and reactivity.

Agreed. And I like the way I feel during reading a novel (or other book). After being terminally online, I feel like a zombie.
