Why hasn’t the use of NFTs for event tickets caught on? Seems like a no brainer? I haven’t looked into it that much

Surprised by this as well. POAP is great, but organizing prior to an event via onchain credentials feels like a no brainer.

It's too early. Seems like a no brainer to you because you're an early adopter. After a phase of crypto mainstream adoption with supporting apps ecosystem, it will probably emerge

Was building this for awhile but kinda got the feeling that it's a solution looking for a problem. If you want use true self-custodial NFTs, most people won't be able to figure it out. If it's just an NFT on an app, much easier to build an in-app marketplace. Overhead for using an NFT doesn't bring enough benefit

Me and a couple other guys built Kickback in 2018. We didn’t use NFTs because they didn’t really exist. But the main issue is, events need people and if using crypto to pay for an event is a blocker, it’s hard to convince organisers to use it. We had to be mainly crypto events. We are too early imo

I’d say people don’t see value in NFT tickets meaning they’re worthless for secondary trading.

There are some NFT as ticketing tools out there. But imo it's hard to communicate the benefit of using NFT vs. the conventional tickets (i.e. factors other than people can trade it)

I don’t think eventgoers really care. I would say the main benefit of NFTs over web2 tickets is permissionless resale markets. But most people want to just buy the ticket to go to the event and event creators don’t want to cater to ticket flippers

maybe people were so overly fixated on virtual experiences previously that they forgot about irl experiences. i see more brands and artists issuing nft tickets for both collectibility and access purposes in the near future.

It’s a wallet problem… Wallet UX needs to drastically improve for people to confidentially use them everywhere Web3 still revolves around desktop and hardware wallets too much Mobile wallets need to become more dominant

I think we need mobile wallets that are easy to use for non-crypto natives. Otherwise they have to jump through the UX hoops, on-ramp etc.

We have been doing this for a few years It works well with people who are fully onchain Now that AA + social login is easier I expect it to become more ubiquitous

It’s a bit pointless IMO Real life events are inherently centralized so the practicality isn’t there, and if you want an NFT to collect you have POAPs
