One of my big strong opinions, loosely held is… You gotta ship your creative shit early, fast, and furiously because your first 100 creations are unoriginal, trope-filled, and derivative (not an insult) because that’s all you can learn from just consuming Execution + Feedback Loops is how you find your voice 🫡

some gems here + in the replies also, for me, 1/ that initial burst produces higher quality, than my inner critic judges in the moment 2/ at age 15, I read some early Hemingway (like, written when he was 17). That destroyed my confidence for 15 more years. Don't look at others, just Do Dope Shit!

Do you think shipping necessarily has to be public?

I can’t find the exact quote but I’m pretty sure Henry Rollins said “you only have a limited amount of suck in you” ie a finite amount of bad shows… In my experience, it’s an exponential taper.

@jacob gave me some good advise re this. If a product is interesting, even posting screenshots of work in progress products will manifest people who are interested.

100%. Plus people who get good at shit optimize for mistakes early as kids, and reinforce that circle of learning + improving

I looked up the registration date of one of my old projects (2015, wow) and I’m still working on it today. It’s actually a more fleshed out product but still in the domain space. I hate the idea of throwing away old ideas, I just remix them. My skills have improved over time so of course my projects are better.

agreed, and my approach is build stable first, then very many 1% experiments quickly while maintaining high perceived value. you only need a few friends (n=5) to validate your experiments before full send

totally agree with this! How can you prioritize shipping over having a quality platform if you're partnered with a big brand? Users won't come back if the UX is bad
