According to @v, a hub costs ~$100 per month to run (for the near future). Would you be interested in running a hub to help increase FC's decentralization? What if @purple gives you funding? We are discussing a potential Purple funding program for hub operators, but would love to understand the interest level first

only 100? Will it require having an ETH node running on the side? Because then it‘ll be more like 200-300

In addition to a @purple subsidy for hub operators, maybe a Gitcoin Grant could also be pursued for this purpose? Purple could be the admin of the Gitcoin Grant.

What are the benefits of running a hub? (Not technical enough for it, just curious)

I’m sorta interested but not sure what I’m actually signing up for and whether I have the necessary skills to keep it running. I have an AWS account and can follow basic directions but is there more to it? I could do $100 /month but what are the longer term incentives for hosting a hub?

I run an ETH node that costs me 230€ in the cloud. I use it for data extraction with attestate.com. I‘m incentivized because it is the fastest retrieval. Infura and Alchemy will never be able to compete with reading from disk. Network is always slower.

I’d pay to run it now, if there’s a model coming. I’d prefer to pay now if the model that’s coming isn’t ready yet and needs more network feedback to align incentives correctly. I’d rather support than be supported still

Now @v will laugh again because I found a VPS with the same 2 cores, 8 GB memory, 90 GB SSD, 3.5T data transfer and 30Mbps bandwidth with only $16 (or 100 GB SSD, 4T data transfer for $22) on Tencent Cloud. https://www.tencentcloud.com/document/product/1103/47794

I might be interested if I pursue a project built on Farcaster. This could be a good way to offset costs. I once shut down a good community project because the node costs were too high.

Actually I'm tinkering with Hubs right now, doesn't work yet, but I'll figure it out. https://i.imgur.com/h3IWtYJ.png

$100/month would be cost prohibitive for me, but I'd be very interested in running a hub if it's subsidized — especially if there's a supportive community similar to OnionDAO, which fosters setting up and running Tor exit nodes.

I’d be into this with funding. Just looked through the docs, looks manageable
