Whether you want to admit it or not, the crypto industry has mostly been a vehicle for dishonorable behavior Your options after internalizing this are: - capitulate to dishonorable behavior - leave the industry - keep the faith that one day this will change - cognitive dissonance I vacillate between #3 and #4

Is it cognitive dissonance to believe that it's always a race between positive and negative use cases, and best we can do is scale the positive use cases as effectively as possible?

I have been swinging between 1 & 2, esp. after seeing how fast a product can attract attention and usage if it just has a ticker associated with it. for #2, I think one have the option to go full bitcoin. But bitcoin moves so slowly it's not an exciting space to build in.

Easy for dishonorable behavior to take advantage in nascent immature industries Crypto is maturing slowly but surely which lends to better actors and better reputation for the industry as a whole We'll get there, step by step

5 - yes and its good actually. the wild west of crypto follows a power law -- the longer the tail, the taller the 1% peak of incredible world-changing products. replace "crypto" with "finance" and its the same. this is what permissionless creativity looks like (i only mostly believe this)

The bad 90% doesn't negate the value of the good 10% imo. Maybe this falls under "capitulate" but I don't think so.

Honestly I've made up my mind that I want to just get my money and go at this point. Build/fork a few protocols that take fees then dip so at least I still have a clean conscience.

My response to this question is just to keep in mind history, and how while crypto has fraud, there have been some awful nation state level financial crimes. The reality is nation states have historically done some awful economic and financial crimes under the guise of the state and caused countless harms. Political targeting, snap economic policy, overnight currency devaluations, debanking, etc., have always happened since antiquity. We are not optimizing for public safety as defined by your current local elected leadership which can change, leaving you under the power of your worst enemy. We are optimizing for maximum individual freedom.

I do love me some cognitive dissonance But I also think it’s about how we frame crypto as a whole, my personal experience has been one where I feel I have more opportunity, more inspiration, and yes have also made some money What I think is possible today is different because of my time here And I wish more people could see that too
