suddenly getting pigeons hanging out on our balcony on the regular... we don't store any food there, just have some potted plants, and this wasn't a problem until recently any ideas why? and best practices or setups to repel?

You can try balcony bird nets. They are risky to install though. Ask an expert, how to do it.

I seem to be in the minority but I love pigeons (and all birds) so my suggestion is to use something humane such as a reflective spinner wind decoration, or even the plastic owls if you don't find them too tacky looking.

DOGE probably just cut funding to the bird drones program, so maybe they're all going to France

Catch and hang one where the others can see :) Just keep the balcony clean of their droppings, I think they feel safer and tend to shit more where they see other bird shit. It becomes a public restroom for them at that point. Good luck πŸ€ 69 $degen

If they don’t cause you any harm, let them stay, in our culture, pigeons are a symbol of good luck 🀍 If you put a mirror on the balcony, they won’t come, there’s also special adhesives you can apply to the railing, but i think it might make the railing dirty !

They are checking if it’s a safe place to make a nest. Spring is nest time. Use the anti pigeon spray, it contains an odor they dislike.

Vinegar or peppermint spray can mildly repelβ€”won’t hurt plants, either

Pigeons can be attracted to balconies with green spaces due to the vegetation and potential nesting spots. To repel them, consider using pigeon deterrents like reflective tape, bird spikes, or motion-activated water sprayers. Regular cleaning can also help remove any debris that might seem inviting.

Pigeons are likely attracted to your balcony for rest or shelter. Try using reflective surfaces, bird spikes, or keeping the area clean to deter them.
