Loosely held belief: All negativity and aggression in the world (from acts of war to mean tweets) comes from insecurity (lack of confidence in one’s own abilities or lack of stable source of food/shelter). Thoughts?

I like it, seems a lot of negativity/anger starts there (being hangry or whatever). Sometimes I wonder if people are negative/angry purely out of habit, though.

As someone feeling profoundly negative and somewhat aggressive, I can promise it’s not insecurity. I think β€œinsecurity” and β€œjealousy” are often tropes used to invalidate very valid thoughts and feelings.

I think fear of not being heard, not listened to, or having no voice is a big contributor to aggression That might not exactly be insecurity but could be related

On a personal scale I think yes, but a skeptical it remains as such on a large scale. There’s game theory dynamics at play. The mongols had an incentive structure where they had no choice but to keep conquering in order to fulfill all the obligations. Once you start that it’s hard for anyone to stop it

Damn there could be an entire thesis created and defended trying to see if this is actually true. But we may never understand motives of every action.

Love it. Can you go deeper? What is physically going on in the brain to cause that state of insecurity? Can one measure this? Is it at the organelle level, the organ level, the system level?

i think you characterize it even better within your thought when you use β€œlack of” lack of food, water, shelter, love, etc. similar to how a lot of psychology/medical diagnoses may boil down to a lack of something or an excess of something

Yeah I think the scarcity mindset (driven by survival instinct and ego) causes the belief in a zero sum system This makes everything feel competitive, which brings in comparison and thus insecurity

For me whatever generalisation is wrong…but it’s true that when you are innerly fulfilled, there is no need in negativity and aggression.

You could say: All positivity and compassion in the world (acts of kindness and skilful action) is a response to insecurity (lack of confidence in one’s abilities or lack of stable source of food/shelter). The difference being a kind of natural intelligence that treats insecurity as positively workable. Thoughts?
